Old, New, Borrowed, Blue help

I'm a sucker for old traditions and superstitions so I really want to do this old/new/borrowed/blue tradition.  I have a pair of sapphire earrings that I'm borrowing from my mom to wear in my second earring holes and my dress/shoes/head piece/lingerie are all new so I need something borrowed (no, I don't want to count the blue earrings twice just because they're borrowed) and something old.  Any suggestions on something unique?
My inlaws-to-be are very conservative and were raised in the Mennonite faith so they have almost NO jewelry.  I still want to have something from their side of the family though.
I already have earrings, a necklace, and a head piece.  I'm not even a big jewelry person, so I would like to incorporate something different for the old/borrow but I'm clueless!

  • Maybe an old or borrowed handkerchief to tuck somewhere? Or you could consider the earrings borrowed and sew a little blue bow or ribbon into your dress (where it's not seen)... a lot of people do that, I think. Also, brides where I'm from place an old penny in their shoe for good luck.

  • maybe you can borrow a purse from your FMIL or someone else in his family, to use for the day. (this is what i'm doing, but i'm borrowing from a friend)
  • "I Do" on the bottom of your shoes in blue rhinestones.

I used antique lace wrapped about my flowers as something old.
  • I'm counting one thing as "borrowed" and "old".  You don't have to have 4 separate things, they just have to meet those criteria.

  • I'm using my late grandmothers handkerchief as my something old. It happens to have some blue too, but I'm not counting it as that.

  • i like the lace idea!

I was thinking you could get a new locket (unless they have an old one) and put old family photos in both sides (one of your family and one of his) you could wear it or attach it to your bouquet.

As for something blue I'm wearing a blue garter. But if you like the locket idea you could tie it to your bouquet using a small blue ribbon.
  • Thanks guys! I think I'm going to do the old lace/ribbon around my bouquet!
