stupid vent...hotel situation

We reserved a block of rooms at the hotel right next to the reception location for our guests. I later found out that this hotel has a 2 night min. which I was ok with since its going to be a semi-destination wedding for at least FI's family.

Well, almost everyone of FI's family is choosing to stay about 5 miles away at another hotel which doesn't have a 2 night min.

I'm just feeling a little frustrated that we went out of the way and selected a hotel/reception location that was close to each other so that no one would have to drive at all after the reception...and now no one is staying at the hotel :(

I know its silly, but I envisioned an after party at a bar about 100 feet from the reception and then maybe a brunch the next day....both of these things will most likely not happen since people aren't going to be nearby and most likely won't travel back in the am for a brunch and also won't stay out later if they have to drive back to the hotel. I won't be saying anything to anyone and I will try to not let it bother me but its just a little irritating....thanks for letting me vent!

  • Yea it's annoying that you blocked rooms at a hotel you wanted your guests to stay at, but you can't really tell them where to stay, you can make suggestions, but ultimately it's their choice. Maybe they wanted to give you space? I honestly don't think I would want to stay in the same hotel the night of my wedding with the rest of my wedding guests.

The reception location has 8 rooms above the function hall, that our VIPs are staying at. One of the rooms is the bridal suite and I will be there the first night, FI and I will be there for the wedding night.

The hotel where the guest would be staying at wouldn't be in the same area, its a building next door that is about 50 feet away.

I know I can't tell anyone where to stay...just wish people would have wanted to stay in the area we'll be in.

    <div>I'm sorry :(</div><div>
<div>I know you originally said about the morning after brunch? Have you talked with those guests that you wanted to include if they would still be interested? You could do it at either hotel or maybe a restaurant nearby?</div></div>

  • If you really would like a morning brunch I would send out a invite to those that you would like to attend.  Let them know your hopes.  Unfortunately they're not mind readers and probably never even gave that a thought (either bc they assumed you were leaving on your honeymoon or just want to give you space.)

  • I completely understand where you are coming from, I would be frustrated as well. I would encourage you to start spreading the word around if you are interested in having a brunch, even if you aren't officially hosting one. This way, guests can be prepared to get up and meet somewhere in the morning.

  • It's not silly, I totally understand why that'd be frustrating for you.  Two night minimum just seems like a stupid rule to impose, the hotel you made a block at just lost a ton of business.

  • Thanks everyone. I'm going to spread the word about a possible morning brunch and see if anyone is interested. Hopefully some people will want to come back to the area for it, but if not, at least our VIPs will be staying closeby and we can always do something with them for brunch :)
