sad and don't know where to post

I'm about 3 months from my wedding, and my hair is falling out in huge clumps (I have Lupus). The bald spots are just getting bigger and bigger and I feel like I'm going crazy right now but my dear fiancé is being great in the fact that I have to cut my hair this weekend while I just want to cry.  Hopefully cutting it short will help with it not falling out so much. I have just gotten over a flare up and I’m trying my best at not getting sick so close to the wedding. I just need to vent and if anyone has any suggestions to help me out please share.

I'm so sorry! Is a wig or extensions an option for you? Perhaps a gorgeous clip, hat or headband or something to cover any bare spots on your head?

I'm sure you'll look great either way.

I am so sorry this is happening, I am sure the stress of having your wedding getting closer isn't helping either.  I couldn't imagine what you are going through and as women we treasure our hair...I know on days where I feel fat or ugly I at least can make my hair look good.

Have you considered possibly getting a wig?  I really don't want to sound insensitive by asking this, but wigs and hair pieces today are very realistic (and sometimes real because they are made with real hair), so if it would boost your confidence and make you feel gorgeous I would invest in a very nice wig or hair piece.

It is great that your FI is so supportive of you.  Just keep remembering that he loves you for you and not for your hair.

Good luck with everything and I am sure your wedding will be wonderful!

I'm so sorry this is happening to you so close to the wedding :(

I hope it's okay to give you some advice? Some people mentioned wigs, but I don't know if that's your thing. To be able to use your natural hair:

I would advise you NOT to cut your hair short. I don't think it will help with the falling out, and the more lenth you keep the easier it will be for the hair stylist to create curls and such. Lose curls pinned all over your hair will help create a feeling of fullness and volume. Avoid touching your hair as much as you can- don't blowdry it, don't brush it more than absolutely necessary, and don't wash it unless it looks super dirty. All of these things losen hair and only make things worse.

    *hugs*

I wish I could give you a big hug! I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this with your wedding. I do agree with pps that there are some wonderful wigs, weaves, and clip-ins out there. Or maybe a mantilla veil?

My mom lost a lot of hair due to an autoimmune disease. She ordered a clip-in hair piece to cover the top of her head. The hair is woven on a mesh base so she can pull her own hair through it. It was absolutely natural looking and very flattering. Her hair has grown back, since then, but she still wears the hair piece for special occasions.

My mom ordered her hair from Paula Young and it wasn't very expensive. You could order a hair piece that fits with your hair style and bring it to your hair stylist to custom cut it.

I'm sending you a hug, too. It must be rough having that one extra thing to worry about. I'm sure you will look beautiful for your wedding.

    Best wishes.

I take medication that makes my hair fall out (alothough not as bad as with lupus).  My doctor recommended I take a B-vitamin supplement called Biotin to help my hair grow back.  It's also really good for your skin and nails.  (My nails grow much faster now).  I've also heard good things about Ovation Cell Therpay shampoo & conditioner system but I've personally never tried it.  I have Crohn's disease so I know how hard it can be dealing with being sick.  Hugs :-)

One of my friends has lupus and I've seen her go through the thin hair/losing hair situations.  I also know that she takes more pills in one day than most people take in a year and adding one more of anything requires her doctor having to see how it would affect the many other meds that she already takes.

What would you think of wearing a veil that has several layers so that your hair is pretty well covered?  In any event, your FI has seen you go through the painful nights, slow mornings, and generally bad days/weeks.  On your wedding day, he is just going to think how beautiful you are and how damn lucky he is to have you in his life.

Hey, I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. I'm not extremely familiar with lupus, but I know how stress can cause flare-up for some diseases, which creates more stress, which... It must be such a hard time for you! Good luck with the appointment.

Thank you all the appointment went ok, she just recommend the same thing you all have and  I feel likeIi can do this and not be worried. I am going extension/wig shopping with my big sis and mom next week to see what is available. Thank you all for the encouraging words, you have been a great help.

Sorry to hear you're going through this.  I've also got lupus, hair issues are one of  my wedding worries I'll admit.  I hope the hairpiece ideas work out well for you.

That said, with regards to cutting it short, I actually found that it did help my hair loss; sheds less when it's shorter. That's because you don't have the added weight that comes from the long hair pulling it out quicker.  So not saying absolutely cut, but it is still an option if you think it will help.

I would suggest a wig. They're beautiful, natural and ready to go. Not all people that wear wigs are losing their hair either.
  • I am terribly sorry to hear about your situation! I hope things are going well! In high school my cousin was diagnosed with aplastic anemia. She had to go to through chemo and everything. Our senior year, she had no hair and ordered a wig. The wig was very natural looking and did wonders but the one thing I suggest is to get something that is as close to natural hair and previous cut as possible. She always had (ever since elementary school) chin length hair and her wig was past her shoulders. Just didn’t sit right with me. I hope things go well for you and find a great wig or hair piece!
