August 2012 Weddings

Officiant question

We have been meeting with our officiant every couple weeks. This week, he told us that when he officiates weddings, he requires the bride and groom to take communion. I have never heard of this being done at a wedding? And for that reason, I am not sure how I feel about it??...Anyone heard of this before?

Kind of a weird detail to find out now. Is this not standard in your religionous practices? I only now of it from Catholic ceremonies.
  • It is common. We are taking communion as well.

  • I just went to a wedding and they drank the wine and didint take communionbut usually its an option. I typically see the bride and groom take communion. He walks up to them first. I mean it only takes a second.

  • We aren't doing a full mass but our priest gave us the option of having communion. And actually, I was hoping to have communion on our wedding day...to me it would seem odd for us to not take such an important sacrament on such an important day of our lives.

  • I've heard of it, but I've never heard of it being required. But it's an important rite, with a lot of meaning, and a lovely symbol on your wedding day.

99% of my friends are Catholic, so yes, I've seen it done. But I've also seen people opt out of doing it so I am surprised your minister would require it.
