Interviewing photographers... what to ask?

Good morning! My fiance and I have a few appointments this weekend with potential photographers for our wedding. I’m really excited to meet with them but I'm also a little nervous.  We really don’t know what type of questions we should be ready to ask them.  Besides the obvious pricing questions, what did you ask potential photographers when you first met with them?

    • are hi-res files included? when will you receive them?  some photogs will only give them to you at your 1 year anniversary
    • are e-pics part of the package?  do you get hi-res files for free?
    • how many photos on avg will they produce?
    • do they photoshop or create "art" images?
    • how long will it take them to upload a gallery for you?
    • how many hours are incl in the package?
    • is there a need for a 2nd shooter?  if so, how much will it cost?

hmm, that's all I can think of for now.  It's also important to look at their portfolio and the quality of their albums.  I really love my professional album, and I would suggest that you shell out the extra $$ to buy one directly from your photog.

ETA:  I tried using bullets, but the formatting blows.  Sorry!

Thanks for your help!  Are the "high res files" the proofs/negatives?

Yes, jpegs I guess.  Your photog will probably give them to you on a CD.  High resolution images are preferrable.  You can't blow up low res files.

those are some good questions. another thing to ask is if the photographer has insurance and backup equipment.

after seeing a photographer in tan pants and a wrinkled blue shirt in the middle of the dance floor during a first dance, I would ask "what do you wear?"

Galaxy how do I send you a message with my email?

I didn't realize there was a board dedicated to photo/video so I posted there as well. Still finding my way around the boards.

    Thanks!

Ask about their experience, how many wedding they have done.

Make sure to look through some albums of weddings they have done- this will give you a better idea of the work you can expect- because they always post their best pics on their websites, but it might not reflect their 'average' work.

Make sure to find out what album is included, and if not included how much it will cost- some photogs I saw charge $2,000 for an album, and won't give you the CD of your pics unless you buy one! There are a lot of hidden costs with photographers, more than any other vendor.

Did you google this question? I did, and came up with a really great list (but I deleted it, sorry).

Make sure you ask if you get the rights to your photos (that way if you want...you can make prints on your own without having to pay too much).
