Gained 4.5 lbs over the weekend???

I'm so disappointed in myself, you guys.  I was down to my goal weight of 119 on Friday.  Saturday morning I got up an ran 8 miles, then got lunch and a cupcake with my FI.  That night was my friend's bachelorette party where I just lost it.  Burger and fries for dinner, tons of drinks, then we came home and had pizza, cake, and cinnamon sticks and I ate a TON of them.  Yesterday I was so hungover that I had pancakes, chocolate milk and popcorn (althought it was smartpop) before dinner.

This morning I got on the scale and I was 123.5 lbs!  I'm so down on myself!  I feel like this is what happens when I try to lose weight.  I restrict my calories and then as soon as I have 1 bad night, it's all back on my booty again.  I'm going to get back on track today but it's still a bummer.  I'm worried because I'm going on vacation to my FI's parents house (in a tourist town) and I'm scared I'm just going to blow all of my hard work :(

  • It's virtually impossible to actually gain 4 lbs on a weekend.  You would have to eat 14,000 more than your body needs.  Not bloody likely.

I'm up almost 4 lbs since yesterday afternoon.  It's all bloat.  Cut the salt and grease, increase the water, and adding a little more fiber couldn't hurt to get it all moving out of your system again.
  • Ditto to anna - do you know how much sodium is in all of those foods you listed?  Heck, I had a bagel and a piece of homemade chickpea casserole yesterday and the sodium from that alone brought my up a pound.

Water, water, water.  And as far as going on vaca - just remember how you felt from this today, and use that as motivation while you're gone.

  • I gained 2 pounds on my trip last week. It was all bloat and was gone in a day or two and I'm back to losing. Don't stress about it, just get back on track.
  • Thanks ladies.

I know in my head I didn't actually gain it, but that darn scale is so mean!  I'm back on track today!

  • Try taking measurements, the tape measure is no where near as evil as the scale ;-)
  • I never weigh myself if I've had more than one drink the night before...because it will look like i've gained weight that I haven't.

Let your body readjust after a couple days of being back on track and I'm sure the scale will go back to where it's supposed to be :)

  • Dont stress as previous posters said its all bloat. Both sugar and salt plus possibly your cyclle will do this.

I get a whole week every month where I put 3-5 pounds on. I'm trying to drop to race weight right now which made it very frustrating when I went up a pound in the last week. However I know the fact that I'm holding at the current weight is a good sign it means I'm not gaining weight because 2 months back I was at 3-4 pounds heavier at this point. Next week I should have a very good guage of where my weight really is I'm hoping its 5 pounds from race weight.

  • I agree with everyone, don't let it stress you out! Whenever I see an increase on the scale after a weekend or a day of poor eating - I have to remember than in order for me to have gained even just one pound I would have had to go over my TDEE by 3500 calories. Which really means going over my calorie goal by 4000. Pretty hard to do!

Like Anna said, increase the water and fibre today and tomorrow and I'm sure the scale will show the difference.
