We were very close to booking him.  His work is great and prices were awesome.  However, when we reviewed his contract we didn't feel comfortable with his terms.  I will just warn to you pay close attention to what you are signing.  He has a clause in there about NO ONE being allowed to take pics other than him (including your guests!)  And that you would need to put up signs at the wedding AND IN YOUR INVITATIONS that photography is not allowed.  That absolutely killed it for us.  You cannot tell my family they cannot take pics.  It was very one sided and I didn't feel protected at all.  When we talked back in January he was living in Jacksonville and wasn't yet moved to the area which also made me nervous.  He was very nice and his work is amazing and as long as you are comfortable with those terms then I'd say go for it.  It just wasn't worth it to me.  GL!

wow, that is insane!! No pics from anyone at all?  Did you ask him about the clause and whether he would negotiate that point?  If not, I would see if he would retract that from the contract to get your business.

Yeah, I talked to him on the phone after reviewing all the points in his contract and told him what we were not comfortable with.  He said it was "industry standard" and wasn't willing to take it out.  Being that he was the first photog we talked to we didn't know any better but decided to check into it.  No one else we looked at had that clause.  He basically said that guests CAN take pics but if anyone gets in his way that legally he could pack up and walk out and we wouldn't be entitled to our money back.  I'm sure the likelihood of that happening is slim to none but it still made us uncomfortable and it wasn't worth the risk of being stuck on the biggest day of our lives...

Wow, thanks so much for posting this. He was on my short list as well but the no pics thing is definitely a breaker. The likelihood of something actually getting in his way is small, but that could be a very subjective decision. It sounds like legally and technically, he could just up and leave if anyone started taking pictures since that's what the contract says, even if he said it's just if someone gets in his way. Sounds kind of diva-ish to me!

I think someone is reading his contract wrong!!! We are in the process of filling it out too because I just think he is amazing! His no photograph policy applies to the formal wedding photo session..he doesnt want people to take pictures while he is doing the formal wedding shots because the flash from the other camera will basically ruin his photos. he clearly states that he will allow guest to take photos outside of that formal wedding slot. might want to read it over a little closer and dont miss out on a great photographer!!!
