Using an iPod for Reception

Hey ladies.
After trying to find a DJ in my budget and having no luck, we've decided to hook our ipod up to speakers for the reception. We have a good friend with alot of good dance music that has offered to make us a good playlist for dancing, one with some beatles and indie music for cocktail hour and dinner, and separate playlists for the significant events. Our MOH or BM can do the honors of announcing things. I'm so happy that I can stop worrying so much about the music! Just to make the playlists now :)  Does anyone have any advice that has gone this route?! Anything helps.

Re: Using an iPod for Reception

  • I have heard of people doing this for weddings, and I think it's a good idea to have someone at least check on the iPod from time to time.  Don't assign someone the "job" of manning the iPod all night unless you plan to pay them.

As a former camp counselor/director, we've used iPods for camp dances in the past, and here's my advice from those experiences:

Make sure the speakers and music player are set up away from guests.  We once used a stereo that ended up vibrating itself right off the counter on which we'd set it.
Make sure no one can bump into/access the music player, unless you're willing to accept that people could just change songs willy nilly.
