maui advise again needed

Hi Everyone!

this is a "what would you do" type question.

We're most likely going to get Maui'ed, but need details. I Love the idea of getting married in Kaanapali/ Lahaina area as i've been there and know what its all about.

Were debating between a resort on Maui (not being able to take beach shots, important to me so we'd have to drive elsewhere), or a beach wedding at another beach on the west side of island. Planning on having 10-25 guests, the beach part of the wedding pictures is very important, but beach wedding also has that risk of inclement weather. Looking at Feb 2013.

What would you do? beach wedding and risk weather (dont want to spend $3000 for private estate), or resort and no beach pics nearby?

any help appreciated! :)Laughing

Why can't you walk down from the resort and do some beach pics? That would let you have the best of both worlds (although, the beach wedding would be cheaper).

Trying to find out if beach photography is allwed on Kaanapali beach. Hawaii States website makes it seem like it can be done but wedding person at a resort (sheraton Maui) states not allowed... trying to find out for sure.

I agree with Alyson - almost all properties have access to a beach that is adjacent.  It would be very simple to walk a short distance and get a few portraits on the beach.  We didn't have beach shots for our wedding, but we did our TTD on the hotel property and just walked 100 yards down to do the beach shots.

Hm, something is up with TK and I can't edit my post.  My other comment was to consider working with different hotels to see who can provide a WC that helps accommodate what you want.  You can definitely do a beach wedding, and maybe work out an agreement with your group hotel for a backup plan in case of weather.  I should also note that structures (chairs, arches, etc) are not allowed on public beaches so you would be planning a standing-only wedding if on the beach.

I am new to the boards and have been lurking, but I thought I would chime in. I am getting married next May on Kapalua Beach, which is just north of Kaanapali. My dinner reception is at Merriman's that has a beautiful grassy overlook you can reserve for 500 bucks (chairs, etc are extra but they are reasonable). Just wanted to throw out another option to consider. I have heard Kapalua Bay is beautiful.

If you are open to getting married in Wailea, I recommend where we just got married, Gannons Restaurant. The food was amazing, the setting is gorgeous (golf course) and you drive 5 minutes to the beach for photos at sunset (what we did).

We had the most amazing wedding I have ever been to, just saying!
  • Maui girl, we too are getting married in May in Kapalua.
We went the private estate route only because we wanted the grass and ocean...and its located right on the reef (Paradise point).  The cost is insane (like everything else), but the estate is large enough that if it does rain, there is a large enough overhang for our 60 guests.
