To bustle or not?

This is the back of my wedding dress. My alteration appointment is in 2 months and I'm trying to decide if a bustle would destroy the back. It has alot of beading and lace and I like the way it lays without anything done to the back. Could I get away with not having one?

Re: To bustle or not?

  • My dress also has a lot of beading in the back.. I was worried about not having it bustled since the train was so long.. but I didn't want to loose that part of the dress that makes it amazing. My consultant at the salon said that they should be able to bustle it and still keep the beadwork visible.. maybe they could do something like that for you?

  • My dress has a lot of beading in the back as well, and my consultant said that it shouldn't be a problem to bustle. I've always wanted to have a bustle though, since I don't want people stepping on my train when we are dancing during the reception. lol Maybe you can try to XP to the Attire board, to see if some of the girls on there had a similar dress and what they thought about the whole bustling thing?

  • To be honest I can't really see the picture that well. It's too tiny for me to see how much beading is on the dress and give me an idea if it would look good or just hide all the beading. Maybe if you could find a larger picture. I have beading all over my dress so I'm not worried about my beading being hidden by a bustle. I agree that it'll help with people not stepping on the back of your dress on accident. I'm sure it'll make dancing a little easier as well.

Can you give us a link to the dress to get a better idea of what it looks like?

  • I Kinda creeped your TK profile to see if you had a bigger picture of the dress saved to your favorites. I remember trying this dress on. I ended up going with another dress. I think this is the dress you are in  http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Satin-halter-A-line-Gown-with-Beaded-Lace-Applique-V8377_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Silhouette-A-Line

I also dug through the user reviews to see if anyone put pictures of it bustled in the user reviews. There is one. (I'm on vacation and the weather is kinda crappy right now so I'm hiding inside watching mythbusters). TA-DA!!! The dress looks great bustled. I would recommend getting it bustled. There is a pretty big chance of someone stepping on the back and that way you aren't worrying about the back of your dress all night.

  • If this is your dress then yes it definitely looks amazing bustled and I don't really think you have to worry about ruining the beading. Besides people are going to see the dress unbustled at your ceremony. It's beautiful!
  • I highly recommend bustling for the reception. The last thing you want is someone to step on and possibly rip your beautiful dress while dancing. Most dresses are designed to still look beautiful bustled. :

OMG thank you! I couldn't find a bustled pic of the dress when I looked on the site. YOU ROCK!

  • There are several different options for a bustle I'm sure your alteration consultant will be able to make the best choice. I would have it bustled I'm sure you don't want your dress stepped on or in the way all night.
