Would / Did you use a wedding planner?

Since my MOH (man of honor in this case- my best friend is a gay guy) started planning my wedding, we're having the best time!  We are both very detail-oriented, organized list-making types, so we've been handing even the smallest planning details ourselves and loving it!

We had both started joking that we should be professional wedding planners!  But then we started actually thinking maybe that's a possibility!  I'm just not sure that enough people in our area really use a wedding planner to make it a feasible business.  I know that some caterers act as wedding planners, or there is someone who works for the venue to help you.  Does anyone have thoughts on this?  I can't imagine wanting to hire a planner because the thought of planning things makes me happy lol; but, do you think there's a market out there for this in upstate NY?

Thanks!

    I know of two people who are wedding/event planners and are well known in the area.

    1) is Mim Frantz of Juniper Events. She lives in Lake Placid but I know she does a lot of work in the entire adirondack region. She is very experienced and has a good reputation.

    2) Debbie McNairy from Lake George has also recently started with Wedding Planning and Day Of Coordination. I know she also has a lot of connections and a good reputation.

    I think that a great planner is always useful, but, remember, being a great planner comes not only with enthusiasm, but with time and relationship building. Both of the women above stand out to me because they have built strong relationships with vendors over the years, allowing them to do things, get discounts, and plan in ways that we, as individuals, cant.

    good luck!

    I didn't use a wedding planner and don't regret that choice at all.  I considered a day of coordinator, but I'm glad I didn't spend the money because in my opinion it would have been a waste.

    I do however know that there are several highly regarded planners in the Albany/Saratoga area.  Personally I think that there is a need more for day of coordination (not planning) at reasonable rates.  When I was looking the packages offered didn't meet my needs or were way more than I thought was reasonable to spend (ie $1700 and up for 8 hours).

    waste of money period;
    every bride has thoughts of becoming a wedding planner after they get married and most of them have no idea;
    it takes talent, dedication and vision and ideas to be a good one and that comes with years of experience and not because you got married once and planned your own wedding;
    take a brush and paint but your no vangoff
