Help!! Having trouble finding church close to either venue or hotels!

Hi Newlyweds and Wives,

I've been bending over backwards trying to find a church that's close to the venue and/or hotel!  We're getting married at the Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station in Haddam,CT and I've looked in Middletown, Saybrook, Chester, etc...If you've gotten married there or will be, what are your plans?

The other key factor is that we can't get married in a Roman Catholic church since my fiance is not Catholic (I know he could convert, or we could take classes, but we're moving to California so we won't be able to commit to the requirements of the Roman Catholic church for non-parishioners).

Help would be fantastic...thank you SO much and congrats to those newly engaged and soon to be married :)  Feel free to share your wedding stories, I love to hear them!!

  • We are getting married in Middletown at St Sebastian's which is Roman Catholic. But when were were looking in the area for churches we discovered there about about 10 different churches in Middletown (all different denominations). It is only about 20 minutes from the venue.

  • Thank You!!  I've been looking in Middletown and found a couple churches we like, but can't seem to find a hotel that would be convenient for them - Are you providing lodging for them too?
  • You could try the Inn At Middletown or there are a few in Cromwell (The Crowne Plaza and the Marriott I think!)

  • what about getting married at the church on Wesleyan's campus in middletown?
  • There are a few churches in East Hampton (however, I don't know any of the names or anything about them).  It is only about 15 mins away, but there are no hotels around.

You could also go the other direction towards the beaches (south on route 9).  Old Saybrook is about 10 minutes down route 9 and I'm sure ther are churches and hotels there.  Most of the hotels in that area are either motel kind of places or nicer places like Saybrook Point Inn or Water's Edge.
  • My guests are staying at the Inn at Middletown and there are a few churches right there.  I am getting married at a catholic church in Middletown, but I know there is a Congregational church, First Church of Christ right across from the hotel.  That is a christian church.

I guess if you are wanting to get married in a church, is there a certain denomination?  It is hard to just get married in any church if you don't believe in that religion.
  • We booked a block of rooms at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell. But we also looked into the Marriott in Cromwell and the Middletown Inn.

  • I'm getting married at a Catholic Church and I am not catholic. My FI is and I was bapisted by another christian religion, so they will marry us. If you find a catholic church you like, I was just call them and ask. Also, he is not a member of the parish and they are not making him join. I hope that helps with the church.

  • I got married at The Riverhouse last July and LOVED it!!! You made an amazing choice! It is too bad that the hotels are so far away... we ended up doing the Crowne Plaza and Marriot in Cromwell. They were far, but cheaper than the Old Saybrook options.
We got married at the Killingworth Congregational Church which has a beautiful 'old New England" feel. It was about 30 minutes from the hotels and about 10 from the Riverhouse.
    Good luck!
