Snarky Brides

UO/whatever

This place is boring today. We haven't done one of these in forever. Let's here those unpopular opinions.

1. Dressing up your dogs/cats for Halloween. Your animal is not a human. Stop treating it like it's one.

2. People who don't vote using reasoning like this, "Well my candidate won't win so why waste my time" or several others.

3. People who root for sports teams that they have 0 affiliation with. Such as random Yankee  or Cowboy fans. This also goes for tons of college fans. I have less of an issue with this except when they speak unintelligibly about the team/university and use the word "we". You give people who actually went to the school a bad name.

Your turn.

Re: UO/whatever

  • How many people try to shove their political views down everyones throat and have absolutlely no idea/ done no research to support anything they're saying.
    image
  • I know this is unpopular among bikers (for God knows what reason) because I've mentioned it in biker friends' company, but I think it should be illegal to ride a motorcycle without a helmet on. I makes ZERO sense to me why a seatbelt is required for everyone, helmets are required for children riding bikes, life vests are required for children and in some circumstances for everyone on boats, and yet thousands of people die in motorcycle accidents every year who would have lived if they were wearing helmets.

It just seems like common sense to me. And every biker I've ever spoken to has known someone who died in a motorcycle accident, yet they still don't wear their own helmets. My boss rides to work every day with the helmet hanging from his handlebar, yet doesn't put it on. IDGI.

[QUOTE]Personally, I don't think there should be a law requiring people to wear seatbelts. It isn't the government's job to enforce common sense.

Good point, though I do like to think that law in particular saves lives. In general, I am not in favor of enforcing laws that when not followed only hurt those who don't follow them (victimless crimes in a way?), but in this case it's so simple--your seatbelt will probably save you at some point or another in your life. Same with helmets.

I feel like clubs need to have a "everyone must wear underwear" dress code. I had my bachelorette on Saturday and there was about 6 or 7 girls who were wearing micro-micro-mini, skin tight "dresses" who flashed me while dancing. I'm almost went up to them and said "excuse me, but your vagina is showing." I got yelled at by security for taking my shoes off on the dance floor but these skanky girls can go around flashing their vadge? Something is very wrong here.

It's not an UO but I did something last night that totally pisses me off when others do it.  I picked the worst possible shoes to wear on my flights home and by my 2nd flight I thought I was going to cry so I took them off on the plane.

[QUOTE]I think bikers who ride in the street should have to carry some sort of insurance in case of an accident.  I don't know if most accident are the vehicle's fault, but sometimes it's the cyclist's fault.

  • The seatbelt/helmet debate has been a hot topic on FI's snwmobiling forums forever. I just looked at him and told him that we might be the same person, since the forums we're on are discussing the same topics!

My UO is: I think there should still be special ed classes in schools because the kids who need help are too embarrassed to stand out in a traditional classroom by admitting that they don't get things, so they're even more unlikely to ask for help and get further behind.

  • UO- I hate when cyclists bike on the sidewalk. As a vehicle, use the road. Wear a helmet, signal. You're a vehicle just like a car, follow the same rules. But don't use the sidewalk and come so close to clipping and running over pedestrians. Similarly- cars need to respect bicyclists.

  • I'm in Newfoundland and Labrador (Labrador actually), and they've been modeling inclusive education for the last few years. I'm a teacher, and see these kids struggling every day and too afraid to admit that they don't get it, because their friends do. I understand the theory behind not taking students out of their regular classes, but to what end?

You can buy food at the grocery store. But if you enjoy killing things, then I guess you go hunting. Sorry, it just isn't part of the culture I was raised in. Like I said, it's my unpopular opinion!

<div>I think your views are very skewed. Factory farming is probably one of the most inhumane things I can think of. Hunting, if done right, takes out an animal almost instantly. These animals were never tortured by pissed off employees, were able to roam and graze freely while feeling the warmth of the sun and enjoy the breeze with their young. Factory farmed animals are usually mistreated, pumped full of drugs and hormones, confined to unimaginable spaces, and in many instances not knocked out properly and end up dying by drowning on their own blood from having their throat slit. I'd much rather have a population that hunts. </div>

Oh, I totally agree. I very rarely eat meat because I do think the way animals are slaughtered is insane, but I still think that hunting is a throw back to the stone age and instills unneccesary violence in our culture. I work in a junior high and it just really disturbs me to hear so many of these kids talking about their guns and how many squirrels they shot, etc. We are not hunter-gatherers anymore, there are other ways to obtain food than killing. I realize this is a cultural difference, I'm from an urban area and now live in a very rural area, and honestly I'm struggling to assimilate to what is 'normal' here.
