Recommendations for designers that are LESS than $1000?

I keep falling in love with dresses I cant afford. Any tips on budget designers that are under $1000 but still well constucted? Im loving the ruffle-y styles in organza or with tulle layers.

Thanks!

  • Mori Lee, Allure, Alfred Angelo, Casablanca, David's Bridal.

Take pictures of what you are looking at to the salon tell them what you budget is and go from there. Good Luck

  • Have you been to a bridal salon?  Usually the first question they will ask you is your budget, then they will show you only dresses within your budget.  Also, a lot of websites will let you sort dreses by price.  If you don't look at dresses above your budget, you won't fall in love with any of them.

  • How firm is your budget? My budget was $1000 but I knew we had some wiggle room. I ended up spending $1200 on a chiffon Sottero and Midgely sheath.

If it's super firm, my BFF tried on several organze dresses at David's Bridal that were in the $700-800 range.

  • You may also check out trunk shows. They are pretty popular, and you can get most of the designer's dresses for 20% off. You can even find a dress you want, and then look up their trunk shows and wait until then to order one.
  • Also consider buying off te rack and/or at outlets. There was a bridal boutique in my area that also had an outlet open on Saturdays that had all their old styles for MUCH cheaper. I got my dress for about 70% off and was definitely below 1g !

Along with this if you find something you love, you might be able to find it used!

I have not gone yet, I was planning on researching designers I like and then finding where which salons carry them. I tried just looking at salon websites, but what I am finding so far are a lot of dresses I dont like. So I dont want to end up at a salon that doesnt have a good selection.
  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Getting excited to go shopping :-)
  • I'll add Tadashi Shoji and WToo to the designers already listed. For the kind of dress you're talking about, I tried on multiple fluffy organza skirts at David's.

I'll also second the trunk show and outlet/sample size if you're of a relatively straight size (wasn't an option for me, as I didn't fit a wedding dress size 6 or 10, and those tend to be what they're selling). If you find something you love, do look for it pre-owned. A good friend of mine got her $4000 Christos dress for $1500 on recycled bride. It looked fabulous, she just put a different belt on it and added some net cap sleeves.

  • Sample dresses are a good option. I went this route and got a slick deal on a dress that was out of my price range otherwise.

  • Casablanca!  My wedding dress was $850.  It is gorgeous, well constructed and, quite frankly, everything I ever wanted.  I can't reccommend looking at their collections enough.

In the words of my bridal shop consultant when I nearly fainted at the $850 price tag (because I thought it would be at least twice that much) "Oh, honey - you don't need to spend a lot to get a beautiful wedding gown."
  • Ann Taylor has a  huge number of reasonably priced wedding gowns
  • I see you are in New York.  If you are in the city, try Lovely Bridal.  It's a cute little by appointment shop in the west village.  They have a number of styles under $1000 with designers like Nicole Miller and Siri.
  • I bought Casablanca and LOVE it..

I think we keep watching "Say YES to the dress" and think that brides are starting to feel horrible when they can't spend that much. MOST brides don't have that amount of money to spend, yet feel bad when they see those shows.

Remember, it's ONE day........Be sensible and don't feel bad about spending what you can afford

cwaggoner - can I ask what designer and style your dress was? It's beautiful!
    Praying for a miracle!
  • My Mori Lee was $822 (raindom I know).  They had a ton of different styles.  I'd look into them.
