The Tides Brides

I was curious to know how your wedding reception went or how your planning is going with them? I have Ron, does anyone have him to deal with?

The whole planning process is going well. We haven't had too much interaction with them, honestly ... we went to check it out ourselves the first time, we brought FFIL with us when we went to sign the contract and give the deposit, we scheduled a tasting but that fell through (our fault, not theirs), and we went in last month to pick out the linens and cake and stuff. That was really it.

We need to meet with them the week of the wedding (I think?) to give the final payment and drop off our stuff (seating plan, place cards, decor items, etc.).

We met with Ron at that last meeting (because we had previously been meeting with Tom, who's not there anymore) and he seemed very nice.

Oh ok. I am getting Married on March 26, 2011 and I wanted to go  for a taste test maybe in January 2011. I have been there a  couple of times to drop off money towards our total but I feel like they have been nice evertime I go. I love how they have the birdcage we can borrow. But, I was just curious how the flow is the day of. WHen you getting Married?

I'm not getting married for another month, so maybe some married girls can chime in on the flow of the day.

They told us we could come in for a taste taste on a day when they're hosting a wedding, I guess so they can just put some food aside for you. We waited a while to schedule one, then we scheduled it and had to cancel last-minute, and we just never got around to scheduling another one. Plus we'd already booked, so there wasn't a whole lot we could do about it if we didn't like the food, lol.

I'm also using their birdcage. I almost bought one in Marshall's (under $20), but once they said they had one I nixed those plans.

We haven't had any issues with them during the planning. They've always been very nice to us. We had visited a few venues in the beginning where they weren't professional at all, so it was nice to wind up with people who are pleasant and have their act together.

They told us about the invites, but we'd already bought ours. I think it's a small shop near the main lobby, because when they gave us the tour they motioned to an open door that looked like it had stationery stuff inside.

I got married at the Tides in August, and everything was great!  We worked with Tom, who is no longer there, but through the whole process he was great.  The day of the wedding was crazy, we were supposed to get married outside in the gardens but the weather was not good.  We thought we might get a break in the weather to do the ceremony so they let us wait until pretty much the last minuted to move indoors...they were great!!

We used the upstairs room, but I know people that used the downstairs room and said the maitre d was great.

As for the tasting, you can set it up and do your final meeting about 2 months before the weddding.  We went on a Sunday late afternoon when they were setting up for a wedding.  They gave us some appetizers, a couple of each dish (chicken, fish, beef).   They also provided soda, wine, beer.   After we had the tasting we did our final meeting when we picked out everything.

You will not be disappointed with the Tides! If you have any questions feel free to email me  lauriep717 @ verizon.net

BTW--the invitation store is downstairs across from the Bridal Suite.  Never went in it, but from what I heard they do a nice job.  not sure about the prices though.

Aww thanks soo much! We were going to get married there but I didnt know if I would like our ceremony to be in our cocktail room downstairs so I just decided to pick out a church near the tides! I really thought the pricing was great for a saturday night wedding and I liked how Ron was nice to us! I will have to go check out the invite store downstairs then! He never mentioned that factor when we booked our wedding, I saw it on the website!

I was a bridesmaid at a wedding there, it was just wonderful!  My friend had her ceremony in the back and cocktail hour outside/inside.  Our room was on the main level, and our bridal suites were upstairs.  I liked the place.

I was worried about how it would be inside, and it ended up being fine.  I would have much prefered outdoors, but you can't control the rain, and I prepared myself for that ahead of time.  So, it is a good idea that you picked a church if you were not thrilled about the indoor space.

I have to say, we went to a bunch of venues when we were looking and the Tides was the easiest to work with.  We were able to get some extras thrown in for no charge as well as lower the price and minimum.

    Good Luck with everything!

Laurie, they have their own table numbers there, right? I really don't want to have to make my own. MB = lazy.

yes they do have their own...i believe they are in cute little frames, my friend used them at her wedding there.   i don't blame you for not wanting to make them, i spent hours a week before the wedding making them, and looking back it was a waste of time.

    Thanks!

I'm SO lazy when it comes to projects, I just can't be bothered. I did church direction cards for Vistaprint and used the computer to address our invites, and I just wanted to throw my computer out the window at that point.

The only DIY project I wanted to do from the beginning was place cards, because I don't like the ones that the Tides provides :P

What placecards did they provide? THe one with thier name on it right? DId the tides give you directions to them for the invites?

The place cards were an ivory color with their logo on it, and space to write the guests' names. Not horrible, but I just wanted something with our colors on it, and I wanted to use the computer to print out their names in a pretty font. I bought solid-colored place cards from paper-source.com in our colors.

Yes, they gave us direction sheets, and I included them with the invitations. I like that the directions do not take you through Paterson, like the GPS does. (Not that Paterson is dangerous, but it's just not pleasant to drive through IMO.)

I hear you about the place cards, I didn't use them, I was not a fan of them.  I just bought some at Michael's and did them in a pretty font, they actually were pretty easy.   I did not want to DIY anything, one because I just didn't have the time, but two, I am just not good at that kind of stuff.  But, at the last minute I ended up making the place cards, programs and table numbers!  The only one I think was worth it was the place cards!

Thanks girls! And I am happy they dont put you through paterson in the direction cards!

I'm DIY'ing programs, too, I forgot. But I took a template off the Internet and borrowed the Catholic layout from a Knot bio. I'm just going to run one off at home and my mom volunteered to photocopy them at work.

While we're on the Tides tangent ... one of my friends/guests asked if there's a valet service. I forget, is there one? (The hall's website is down.) And if so, isn't their pay and tip taken care of by my service charge? I don't want the guests to have to pay.

I know there is Valet parking for sure! But, I just thought usually the guests pay the tip if they want to tip but I am not sure if its included in the service charge! I wonder if it says it in the contract?

There is a valet service, that the guests do not pay for.   most guests give a tip when they get their car (speaking from experience, we always give a tip)...that being said your tip for them is included in the service charge, and we did not give any extra.  Although, I think my Dad gave them  something to split..there were quite a few of them with 2 weddings going on.

so what did you tip the day of the wedding?

at the Tides, we gave the maitre d a tip...then just the DJ, video, and photographer florist.  my dad also gave a tip to the bartenders, so we didn't give them any extra.   Maybe we were cheap I don't know, but I felt like we were already paying so much for the service charge/gratuity that I wasn't giving any more.    Oh, and we also gave Tom a tip, because he was so nice to work with despite a million changes we made.

I got married at the tides last year and we loved it as well! I was also a bridesmaid there 3 years ago. We also worked with Tom, who is no longer there.

MB- I used their table numbers and I thought the frame! was ugly! I mean, I really didn't care, but they totally don't match anything! haha I didn't want to make anything either and said eff it, I will use the ones provided. Here's a pic.. I wish I had a better pic to show you!

Thanks for sharing, Kristen! I agree, they're not fancy, but for what it's worth I looked at your pretty wedding pics often I and never noticed them.

My sister actually did silver-framed pics of me and FI as the shower centerpieces, and she gave them all to me afterward, so maybe if I have enough frames I'll print out the numbers onto cardstock and slap them in the frames.

That's a cute idea! I cannot believe you're a month out! Time flies!

It wasn't terrible, I guess I was expecting something simple and plain for a table number. haha
