October 2012 Weddings

Tell me I'm not....

...a lazy bum! We aren't having a formal wedding at ALL. I'm not doing inside envelopes for the invitations. And I really don't think I'm going to do programs anymore. They just aren't something that is important to me.

Please someone reassure me and tell me that I'm not being lazy or tacky!

Re: Tell me I'm not....

  • Im not doing inside envelopes or RSVPs or programs. In fact I didnt even know what the programs were till a couple months ago. Do what you feel is right and don't worry about being full of ettiquite. Weddings are about two people coming together in a very serious life long committment, not how much paper you waste. :)

  • Not at all. We're having a semi-formal wedding, and aren't doing inside envelopes either. We are doing programs, but only because it's a Catholic wedding mass and some people probably won't know what to say/do. Otherwise, I think that there are a ton of things that are completely unnecessary, regardless of formality. Those two are just a couple of examples. You're fine!

  • Like PP, we are doing a semi-formal event, but no inside envelopes for us.  We did pocketfolds, and the postage was crazy as is, I can't imagine adding another envelope to that.

  • Shew! Thanks. This has been the week from hell. I'm pretty sure I've second guessed every wedding related decision I've made so far, except the one where I decided WHO to marry :) Anyone else been overthinking/second guessing things?

You're not being lazy or tacky at all. You're being practical and eco friendly (or green). Since my invites fold up and the RSVP cards are post cards, I don't have any envelopes. I am doing programs tho. They'll probably be pretty simple.

  • Nope. We didn't do inner envelopes. We ordered flat invitations from VP. I also ordered a business card asking ppl to RSVP by email or phone by Oct 1st and all I did was punch some tiny holes in the business card, string with ribbon and tie it to the invite like a gift bow...stick them in the addressed envelope and ready to go!

  • No inners or programs here either.  I wouldn't worry about it at all.

  • I didn't do an inner envelope and we are not doing programs.  We have a judge performing our ceremony and it should be short, sweet and simple so no need for a program.

  • You're fine!  I'll share what my brother told me when I was trying to decide what chairs to pick for the reception, "At your 25th anniversary, people are totally going to be talking about how tacky your chairs were." (sarcasm).  Just concentrate on what matters, that you are marrying your best friend for life!  The rest is just details.

I didn't do either. I still don't really understand the inside envelope thing. I think it is a waste of paper (no offense to those of you using them . . . I know it's traditional).

  • No inner evelopes here and I'm just going to print our programs myself.

  • I didn't order any inner envelopes, but they sent them anyways.  I'll probably end up using them, but we'll see in a few weeks if I end up completely fed up with them.

You need to do what is best for you without being rude to your guests.  Not having inner envelopes or programs is not rude at all.  Most people probably won't even miss them.
  • I'm having a pretty formal wedding but we didn't do inner envelopes. It's just a waste of paper in my mind.

I do like programs, but you don't HAVE to have them.

  • Only a few of my invites got inner envelopes and i never planned on doing a program.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

  • You're most definitely not! I didn't do inner envelopes, and I have always planned on not doing programs. We are doing a rustic/vintage wedding, so I am just writing the wedding party on some antique windows so the guests still know who is involved :) I'm thinking I will also carry this idea over to the reception and put the menu on a window on the guest book table.

  • Make your wedding what you want it to be!  We are not doing inners and frankly I don't understand the point to them!
  • Ours will be pretty casual, and our RSVPs were postcards, so no inner envelopes. :) Not a lazy bum!

  • I never even considered inner envelopes. I've never recieved an invitation with them. Though I have received one with no postage on the RSVP card! (They also put registry information on their pocketfold. I just shook my head and moved on.)

I haven't decided on the programs. Our end-of-ceremony blessing and recessional is going to be a surprise for my high school friends so I'm not sure if I want to do the program without them, or do no program at all. If we do one, it will be a simple one page on cardstock. The friends that did no postage RSVPs (I still pick about that one) did a single sheet of regular printer paper, folded in half to make a booklet for their programs. The bride said she only did programs because it was a Catholic wedding.
