Keeping it consistent - decor

I have a rather open era (30s-50s) vintage travel themed wedding planned.  My centerpieces will use the floral hankies (in pinks and greens) under a series of small vases in greens and clear.  In a mason jar will be a family sepia toned travel picture or wedding pic in the collection.  My cake table will have a series of metal souvenir buildings (I've collected for years) and maps underneath.  Similar for the Candy buffet though I might use old atlases stacked up to create some visual interest with a color coordinated tag on the bags.

I am now planning the programs, the paper cones for flowers at the ends of the ceremony aisles and the signage/tag items.  My question is - do I have to stick to the map travel prints or can I use some more vintage inspired florals or even polkadots?  I realize I should keep my colors consistent (greens, pinks and browns) but I want some way to tie the centerpieces (which I love the anthropologie look of) and the other stuff. I feel like I might be overthinking things.

  • I think you could tie in some floral prints since you are using them for your center pieces and you don't make it all too busy.  It all soungs great though!
  • What about using some vintage postcards?

  • Florals would look awesome, I think- if you're doing anything layered/ scrapbook style you could totally layer in the maps OR polka dots, I think, but I would try to use soft polka dots- like white paper with very small soft green or soft pink dots

I think that all sounds awesome! :)

  • Great minds - I used the vintage postcards as my save the dates.  I still have a pile of them unused - so I could spread those around too.  I love the idea of using something softer (polkadots) and duh! I can totally mix the map prints in with the florals, perhaps down the aisles (cones).  I could just make sure they are the same colors and alternate them every other row or something.  I don't know why I was thinking one or the other and not both.  Thanks ladies- very very helpful.
