Wedding Party

Flowergirl

What are the traditions with having a flowergirl? I know almost every wedding has one, but I do not have any young girls within my family or my fiances family. All the girls are 13 or older. Do I have to have a flower girl? I will be including a ring bearer though.

Re: Flowergirl

  • LIke PP said, they are optional. We have two younger girls who we asked to be in our wedding (9 and 7). We asked what they wanted to "be" and they decided they wanted to be bridesmaids, so no flower girls for us :)

  • We only had a ring bearer, no flower girl.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • We only had 2 flower girls, no ring bearers. H had four year old nieces, so it worked out perfectly. But if they had been boys, we would have done 2 ring bearers, no flower girls, and if there were no nieces or nephews at all we would have done without. I think it's more about who is important in your family, and if there is simply no one close to you, no big deal.

  • Nope. We have a young daughter and she's not even going to be a FG. We're not having a RB either.

  • Thanks for all the help! I am going to stick with just the ring bearer and no flower girl!
  • Hey, look at it this way...less kids to keep track of & worry about. We are having 2 FGs and 1 RB. FI has 6 nieces & nephews, so we got lucky. I do feel bad tho because 4/6 of the kids are in the wedding & the 2 middle nieces are not. They are 10 & 7. Idk what I am going to do with them, but I do feel awful that they dont have a place in the wedding.

<div>Sierra, are you having your wedding in a church?  When I was younger, my cousin and I brought up the communion gifts at my aunt's wedding. I think we were around that age, 9 or 10. Just a thought...</div>

Yes I am having my ceremony at a church. I am def going to take a special picture with them. I am also putting the oldest one "in charge" of the childrens table at the reception. Although we are having an adult only reception, his 6 nieces and nephews will be there. We are going to put them all at one table, next to my FMIL. The littlest girls do whatever the oldest does, so I think it will work out well. I was thinking of having them walk down with FMIL since she doesnt have anybody to walk down with?
