Are dyeable bridesmaids shoes too 80s? Need your opinion.

I am getting married in February, outside of Boston. My bridesmaids are going to be dressed in a long, plum, heavy satin dresses. What do I do about shoes? Keeping in mind Boston in February, you can have snow, slush or nothing at all. I was thinking of having them find a dyeable shoe that they like and have it dyed to the dark plum of the dress. Is it too 80s? Would black satin be better?

    80s for sure. Just let them choose their own shoes. Pick a color if you like (they won't be seen anyway), but let them choose what's comfortable.

    Definitely 80s. I think silver shoes would look lovely with plum.

    Just a tip, you should get a waterproof spray for the shoes so the dye doesn't run all over your girls feet from any kind of slush ro snow. I was in a wedding last summer and it rained and the girls who didn't use the spray had blue feet! Just ask the store where you get the shoes for a recomendation.

    Ditto.  You can find pretty shoes in ALL shades of colors these days.  Dyeables just always look, well, dyeable.  Not fashion-forward.

    You'll find what you're looking for, and you have time. :)

    Black and silver shoes would both look good with the plum and then they might at least be able to wear the shoes again.  Personally, if I had a plum BM dress that I was able to wear again I wouldn't wear it with dyed plum shoes. 

    And there is that whole issue of water/snow ruining the shoes.

    I'm wearing dyeables, and I don't think they're too 80s by themselves.

    But dyed to match the bridesmaid's dresses?  Gross.  Don't do it.  Black or silver would be fine.  One of my bridesmaids found her own purple shoes to compliment the purple dress. (but not match it).

    Just say no.  If the dresses are long, they could be wearing bright green rain boots underneath and no one would ever know.  If I were you, I'd just tell them to wear whatever they feel is appropriate and to run it by you if they have any questions or doubts, and then cease to concern yourself with it.  That's pretty much what I did with my girls, and most of their dresses were short.

    Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

    yes...i vote silver.  your BM will actually be able to wear them again.
    plus...those dyeable shoes are SO uncomfortable!  i wore them for my brother's wedding b/c my SIL wanted them.  they KILLED my feet!

    I agree with the black or silver idea.  I would recommend you tell them one color and have everyone get that color.  I was in a wedding recently where we could wear either black or silver.  After the photographer took a pic with all the girls jumping in the air and other various things that showed shoes and it would have been (IMO) cuter if all girls had on the same color shoes.

    My BMs are wearing eggplant dresses and I am asking them to wear black shoes.  I knew they would never wear dyed purple shoes again, but most of them already own black heels that will work fine with the dresses.  I'm also having a winter wedding and was concerned about the dye running in the snow.
