Dental School/Med School and a wedding

I just got engaged and am nearing the end of my first year of dental school.  My fiance is finishing his first year of medical school, but he is in the Caribbean for school.  We are getting married at the start of our respective 3rd years when he comes back to the states.  We are struggling with how to plan a wedding with our crazy school loads, and the distance between us.  Plus since we are both full time professional students we only have loans and a tiny bit of savings to work for paying for the wedding. Any advice?  Thank you!!

im on the same boat sort of, as we are planning to get married the summer after my first year of medical school. i wanted to do it before but he is much more comfortable getting married after i start because around that same time he will be finishing his masters and starting the new job and well it is much more reasonable because he would have a steady job before we get married. take things slow, try to get help from friends and family and you MOH for planning and it will make you much more at ease.

may i ask where in the caribbean he is studying?

  • My answer: we're having a really, really uncomplicated wedding, haha.

My FI is co-oping at his firm and is always at work. I'm drowning in seven needy classes this semester and work part time.
This summer I'm taking two classes and he's taking three, I'm taking the LSAT and we're both taking the GRE.
Oh, did I mention that our wedding is RIGHT in the middle of all this?

    It's miserable.

My advice would be to find a venue (if you can afford it, and we really couldn't) that is as inclusive as possible.

It's expensive to do it that way, but you have a little time to really start saving hard.

<div>You have no idea how thrilled I was to read that there are others in or on the path to professional programs and not HS kiddos! I am finishing my last semester of pre-req's to apply for dental school this June and will be taking the DAT in July (yeah a bit late, but wanted to make sure I gave myself ample time with Kaplan course this summer). So I understand the feeling. I am fortunate that my SO is well established in his career and is beyond supportive of my dreams! I cant imagine being so far apart and trying to plan a wedding during your first year! </div><div>Have you considered doing a simple ceremony and then after Med/Dental schools having a full wedding? Just a thought.... </div><div>
</div><div>Best of luck with DDS school and Med school to your FI!</div><div>
