Are there any wedding terms that you hate?

I also posted this on the Nov. '10 board, because I'm feeling extra curious.

I really don't like bride or bridal. And big day makes me cringe...

Even though I say STD on here, it still freaks me out whenever I read it. ;)

I KNOW there are things that have bugged me, but I can't think of any right now.

Not really a term, but "when are you going to start a family?" That question started the instant we got engaged. Any answer besides "we're starting our wedding night" was met a debate. Argh.

Being very immature and silly, which is maybe compounded since I teach a bunch of adolescent, hormone-crazed teenagers, I always laugh inside when I see STDs and have to fight the urge to write something stupid on posts. Embarassed

OMG That bugs the crap out of me too! Pretty much since the day FI and I got engaged too, all we've been getting asked is that question-along with if we've set a date.

Even my parents are getting annoyed with that question. They've come up with quite a few clever answers :-P

UMMM yup super annoying!! FMIL asked me that question last weekend...JOY. She didn't seem overly excited when I said it'd be a few years at least... good thing she already has other grandkids to keep her busy :) Why are people so nosey?! I mean FMIL...understandable why she'd ask and less nosey, but others? Not really any of your business!

After you're married everyone asks "So how's married life?" It seems like a reasonable question, but seriously, how are you supposed to answer that?? I always say "so far so good!" lol

At this point I'm geting sick of "So You're Next" because I have had 2 cousin get married right before me. It bugs me because I think they are comparing.

I also am getting sick of "So How's the planning going" well I'm done. haha just working on DIY stuff. It's because when I go home I have a large family and everyone asks so I get sick of explaining 20 xs. Plus I don't want to give a lot of it away.

I hate the word wife. To me, it sounds like a long-suffering unpaid servant of the home. I also hate the abbreviation DH. Why does he always have to be referred to as dear? Why not just H? I'm also getting sick of "your big day," but I can't find a better term or phrase for it besides "showtime", so I am guilty of using it. Showtime doesn't really sound serious enough for a wedding, since we're not talking about a play here. I guess I also hate most wedding-specific words, and especially "soul mate" and all clothing related terms, but most especially crinoline. I hate the word and I hate the object itself.

If anyone asks about starting a family right away, you could just tell them how you're practicing nonstop. Then see if they want any more details. It makes me nervous when people ask me, because I've got it in my head that I won't be able to conceive or our child will have a developmental disability because I'm older than the ideal first-time mother and my eggs will go rotten.

    lol -- Good Question!

I, too, am really tiring of answer the following questions:

    "So, how's the married life?"

"When are you going to try and get pregnant?" (Seriously, I get asked this all the time!)

I promise to never ask these questions of my friends/family in the future. That's for sure.

Something about DH sits wrong with me, too. It sounds too old timey or something, not sure. :)

I do, however, love the term wife. Especially when my hubby says it. :)

Yep, the whole "when are you having kids"-when we say that we aren't planning on having kids, then that is really when the comments come. "ooohh,, you'll change your mind, just you wait" Please respect our decision!

Don't get me wrong, I love being married and love my hubby to pieces...but Mrs just makes me cringe.
