Marriage license question

Hey guys,
I have plenty of time until my wedding but I have been thinking about this a lot.  I live in New York but I am getting married in New Jersey.  Where do I go to get a marriage license?  I have no friends in this situation because they all got married in their respective states.
Anyone know the answer?

Re: Marriage license question

  • Yes, you will need to apply for the license in the town in which you are getting married. I advise looking online or calling that township since rules for licenses can vary a bit from town to town.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re:Marriage license question : This is correct. NJ has a website with all the rules, it was really helpful.

  • I got married in a different town in NJ than I lived in. I had to apply in the town we resided in and then following the wedding, the license needed to be filed in the town we were married in. So the rules may not be so clear. Unsure about out of state but that's what we just did in September.

It is actually very clear. NJ residents apply in the town in which the bride resides. Out of state residents apply in the town in which they are getting married.
