Re: first it was Diana's ring, now possibly the same wedding date?

  • If that's the case, ew. The ring was sweet, but using the same date seems weird
  • The same ring is less weird than the same date. I mean, I totally get that he loved his mother, but I feel like now they (mostly just William) are just trying to somehow fill Diana's shoes.

  • another interesting thing - charles and di had 3500 invited to their ceremony, but only 120 at their reception...
  • My FI's brother got married the same day as his dad and deceased mother.  I thought it was odd, and I knew it was very hard for fiance's dad to get through the day with all of the memories flooding back to him.

I like the ring, but I agree the date is too much.

  • That does seem odd.  I wouldn't do it unless there was another reason for the date, even if their marriage hadn't imploded.

I heard that the date WASN'T in contention, because it would have been his parents' 30th anniversary. An article I read yesterday said odds are 2-1 on August 13 and 3-1 on August 6, and that Westminster Abbey had been contacted previously about a possible event on the 13th.

Also, July 29 is a Friday.

  • I love the article I was reading this morning that said the main difference between Kate and Di as brides is that Kate isn't a virgin.  Nice.

I refuse to believe she would purposely do anything tacky like that. I blame Charles.

From what I heard years ago, yes, Diana had to go through an exam.

However, my friend and I speculated that it is now a different time and the queen might have waived that rule.

Queen got some egg on her face from handling Charles and Diana.  I think she learned her lesson.

That's not unusual for royal weddings.  They are mainly for the bridal party and family.

True. Let's see, 3 of her 4 kids ended up divorced? Yeah, maybe time for a new approach.

Well, it was pretty well known even then.  The problem with him originally marrying Camilla was that she was divorced.

I think the two are worlds apart.  Diana dated Charles for 6 months, Kate dated Will for 8 years.  Diana barely made it out of school and Kate is university educated.  Diana was a 19 year old child when she got engaged and Kate is a 28 or 29 year old woman.

Also, yes, the Queen learned her lesson.  Prince Edward and his wife actually lived together in one of  Buckingham Palace's apartments for a couple of years before announcing an engagement.  This was to let Sophie adjust at her own pace to what her life could become.

Actually, the problem was that she was already married. As in, still married. Until 1995.

  • I'm supposed to go to London July 11-22 for a class for my graduate degree...I'm hoping they'll change that if William and Kate's wedding gets planned for during that time! I can't even imagine how crowded/secure/expensive it will be around that wedding!
  • charles and di had 3500 invited to their ceremony, but only 120 at their reception...

I'm not British, so I don't have the finest sense of this, but my guess is that etiquette is a lot different for the royal family.  Actually, it's probably not even etiquette so much as what they call in diplomacy "protocol."  Anyone want to fill me in?
