no groom's cake

How many of you are not doing a groom's cake? We're not. We both designed and decided on the flavors. We figured we only really need one.

But instead of a groom's cake, we thought about doing mini pastries and strawberries. The strawberries are really cute; half have little chocolate tuxedos covering them, and the other half are the white chocolate bridal strawberries.

We are not doing a groom's cake, I actually hadn't even heard of it until I joined tk. Our venue provides us with a cake of our choosing and we both choose the flavors, chocolate with Kahlua filling for half and white with Rasberry filling for the second half. I really like the strawberries, they are very cute.
    Little one is here.

I don't plan on doing a groom's cake either. We don't even plan on really having a cake, might just do a pastry/mini dessert bar instead since we don't want to limit ourselves and our guests.

Groom's cakes are optional, so it's fine not to have them.  We had those little strawberries, too, but just the tuxedo - I think the bride one is really cute, I hadn't seen those before!  My husband kept saying they looked like beheaded penguins.

We didn't have a grooms cake either. My mom and I thought about surprising my DH with one at the RD but when a converstaion came up about grooms cakes he kind of made fun of them and said he thought they were pointless. So I asked him, what about at the RD and he said he still didn't like them so my mom and I scrapped the surprise. I told him about it after and he said it would have been nice, but he thinks it would have been a waste of money. So, I'm glad we found this out beforehand lol.

P.S. I LOVE the strawberries idea! Super cute!

I can't help but think about it whenever I see them - I still think they're adorable (and tasty) but it makes me giggle to myself.

Nope, no groom's cake here.  Ditto PP that I had never seen nor heard of a groom's cake until TK.  The strawberries are adorable!

I was planning on having one until I found out that our reception site was going to charge $3 extra pp for cutting fees so I nixed that idea. I've seen a lot of really cool and unique looking ones but as people said, they're totally optional although they do seem to be more of a tradition in the south.

We didn't have a groom's cake either.  H doesn't really like cake.  We did have a fruit and fresh whipped cream display in addition to our multiple flavor options wedding cake.

As a Southerner, I know it's completely unnecessary to have a grooms cake, but it might be fun to set up the strawberries in tiers like a cake or something.  That way when you send home the berries it could still fulfill the traditional role of the slices of grooms cake going home with the single ladies and all that goes with that tradition.

DH didn't care anything about a groom's cake so we just made a tier of the bride's cake chocolate so that would be an option for our guests.  Each guest got one slice of one of the white flavors and one chocolate.

no groom cake here. we may just do cupcake tower & a small cake to cut instead of a bridal cake anyway.

I am loving those strawberries! Think a desert table may need to happen at our wedding, lol.

I think groom's cake is a southern tradition. We are doing a cupcake tower with a small cutting cake. I am going to have some of the cupcake arranged and decorated as  Steelers helment and a Viking helment (our favorite teams) as a nod to K's love of football

We won't have a groom's cake either.  We are having an ice cream/hot fudge/brownie bar served in martini glasses instead.  It was only $2 extra pp through our caterer and well worth the money.

We're not doing a Groom's Cake either. Whenever I think about a Groom's cake, I think about that Armadillo cake from "Steel Magnolias" - Ummm, just no!

We're having Strawberries and fondue at the end of our reception and our wedding cake will be multi flavors. I'm lucky enough that a dear fried that is a cake decorator is going to make our cake!

The Grooms cake is just a big southern tradtion. A lot of people who do have one, might serve it at the rehearsal dinner instead of reception. I believe the whole idea behind it was just another dessert option, and to let the boys have their lil piece of the wedding :) You def do not have to have one!

Those strawberries look awesome.  Really unique idea!  When it comes to the cakes though, I think the idea of groom's cake is dumb, personally.  Just make sure your desserts taste good and everyone's happy.

We're not doing one, and it won't be missed since it's not really much heard of up here in Minnesota.  If I had the budget to get one and surprise FI, I would've got Darth Vader's head on a platter.  If I come into some money before the wedding, I might still do it, but it's definitely on the back burner for now.

We will be doing one but it is only because FI and FMIL are diabetic and a sugarfree option is a must.

<div>This is the one thing FI wants at the wedding and reception (except to end up married, of course).  He pretty much said that if I let him do this, complete with grey frosting and a red velvet interior, he would let me make all of the other decisions.  </div><div>
I know how to pick my battles.  Besides, I like red velvet cake.</div>
