October 2013 Weddings

I Am New.... (and slightly freaked out)

Hates: Probably the usual suspects... cleaning, stress, mornings
Pet Peeves: Lack of self-awareness or tact, Ignorance/intolerance
Favorite Thing About Your SO: His genuinie kindness, patience & generosity
Least Favorite Thing About Your SO: His lack of ability to load the dishwasher or make the bed properly (obviously & easily outweighed by the favorites)

Tell Us Something Interesting About Yourself: I don't find myself particularly interesting, but I still find I have plenty to say about just about everything. This is a second wedding for both of us and although there is the petty part of me that just wants it to be in no way reminiscent of (and obviously way better than) the firsts, there is the insecure part of me that is worrying about what everyone else will be thinking, the most of me just can't wait to marry the most amazing man I've ever met and wants it to just be relaxed and fun, for us and everyone else. Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to make that happen on a tight deadline and budget!

Re: I Am New.... (and slightly freaked out)

  • First, congrats! October 5th is when I am getting married too.

    Second, breathe!

You can plan a wedding in 7 months no problem. Start with the big things. Guest list, venue (once you know a number of guests), photographer, caterer, dress.

I would get a rough estimate of the number of guests ASAP and look for venues since some of the more popular ones book far in advance.

Some dresses can take up to 6 months to come in so I would start looking. If you are going to David's though you should be fine. I was told my dress would take 3 months to get in and I got it in 3 weeks (I had to get a new one cause the first was made wrong and I got that one 2-3 weeks later). So basically I got 2 dresses in under 2 months.

If you are doing save the dates you are still is the normal window to send them (6-9 months out). If you are going to do them though you should get working on them ASAP. You will need a guest list first though.

Most importantly enjoy planning! Good Luck!

  • I'm a 10/5 bride too! I just got engaged on Christmas day, and I already have a ton of the big stuff checked off, so you shouldn't worry or stress to much about it. I actually found that my lack of options helped my indecisiveness!

Have fun! It sounds like you have the right prespective already, so you should be good. :-)

  • Welcome to the boards - you can totally put it all together by October. Just take it one step at a time - look for a venue and dress first. Good luck! We're here to help you along the way!

  • Welcome to the boards! I demand puppy pictures. :)
  • Thank you all so much for the words of encouragement... it makes me feel a little bit better! :)

I'm currently looking at venues as my first order of business and hoping the rest will start falling into place a little easier after that. I'll feel better, at least! We need to sit down and come up with a relatively reasonable invite list... I have a feeling that after both of our relatively large families, we'll need to try to limit it to about 150 and may still need to be flexible on the date.

Fortunately, I'm not fussy enough and can't justify in my own mind the time/cost of doing a truly designer dress so it will probably be a trip to David's for me... thank you for noting that, though - I'm glad to know it will be a reasonable option from both perspectives!

Again, thank you so much and best wishes to each of you, as well! I'll post pics as soon as possible. :)
