Packing your entire house

Has anyone done this? I think this is my first time actually packing every single thing in a house. In the past I've moved out from my parents and into a small apartment and obviously I did not pack everything- bascially just my room. FI and I used to live in an apartment, but we did not have a lot of stuff.

Now we live in a house and I can't believe how many boxes we've been filling up! We have less than 3 weeks, and I'm freaked out seeing all of the boxes that we'll have to bring with us to the new house! How the heck did we fill up the house so fast in the last 1.5 years we've been living here!!

My hands hurt. My dog is confused, he's been following me around, watching me pack and sniffing around.

  • I have, twice in 2.5 years and it sucks!! It's unbelievable how much junk you gather and realize only once you start to pack.

  • It really sucks.  FI and I will be doing that in 2 months and I'm already dreading it.  The only nice thing about moving is you can go through all of your stuff and get rid of things you don't need.
  • Just make sure you get rid of anything you don't use or don't like (clothes, knick knacks, etc.)  I think there's nothing worse than lugging around useless things and having to pack and unpack them.

    Good luck!

  • Moving suuuuucks. Only good thing is it's a great opportunity to throw a ton of useless junk out. Good luck!

  • I hate moving. I told FI when we get our new place, he better have some friends willing to work for pizza because I hate moving. I'll pack and unpack all day, but moving (especially upstairs) is not something I like to do.

  • I hate moving and is probably one of the reasons why I'm not even looking to buy a house at the moment I can't handle that right before the wedding!  I would say make sure you label the boxes and stuff.  One thing I did last time was we downsized so we had one stack going to a storage unit so we threw blue tape on it to mark it so it was easy to figure out where it was going.  I would suggest doing this with 1st/2nd floor or maybe bedroom/kitchen so at least the boxes end up in the right area of the house.

  • Starting early is the key.  The more you can pack before the actual moving day, the easier it will all be.  Also, if you can start taking loads to the new house, it will help immensely.  We just moved last October and have 4 children as well.  We started packing in July and started taking loads in August.  We still had to make two trips with the moving truck because of all the furniture (we had the biggest one you can rent), but doing as much as we could beforehand really helped on the day of.

  • No advice because I've only had to pack up one bedroom apartments, but good luck! At least it's to move into an awesome house that you adore with your fiance! :)
