Need opinions on necklace length

Hi ladies! So I finally found the perfect wedding day necklace on Etsy and am about to order it, but I'm not sure which length will look best with my dress. The necklace comes in 16", but I think that might be too short (you can customize it to make it longer). I was thinking 20", does anyone have any insight into this and/or opinions about what would look good?

For reference, here is my necklace, dress, and a guide for necklace lengths that gives you a general idea of where each length falls:

Thanks in advance for the help.. for some reason I am really struggling with this, it is so hard to tell without trying it on first!

Re: Need opinions on necklace length

  • The only advice I can offer is going to a department store and buying a few necklaces in different lengths and then try them on with your dress., in order to see how the different lengths look with your dress, then return them :)

  • I'd go with 18". I just bought BM necklaces that were 16" and returned them because they are too short. They aren't "choker" tight, but they only lay one inch below the neck. I like them to be a bit longer.

  • It also depends on your height. I'm 5'1" and pretty small (sz 2/4), so I would want a necklace (for a fancy occasion like a wedding) to be about 17". On me, 20" would be waaaay too long and come close to hitting the top of the dress. My mom is 5'7" and sz 16/18 and a necklace 18" to 20" would work well on her. If you want the necklace to be close to "choker" length (like in the necklace product picture), than 16 to 17 is the way to go.
  • Pretty necklace! If it was me I would go with the 20"

  • I agree with Lyra, on me 20 inches would be lost between the girls.  I'd go with an 18, can you try a few on at someplace like target and see where they lay on you?

  • I'd put your dress on, measure a piece of floss/string with a measuring tape, and see exactly where it falls on YOU.  Referring to the chart, I prefer the 18"-20" if that is really where it falls on you.  Pretty necklace!

  • Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm going to measure out some necklaces I already have and see about where they fall on me to test it. Not sure why I didn't think of that before :)

  • I would say 18" or 20". Beautiful choice by the way!! :)
