Wierd items to register for (at least in my opinion)

alright so I was reading an article in a bridal magazine and they were talking about registering for a mattress?! wtf? do people do this? is it a normal thing? it was the first i had heard of it so its def not normal for the pacific northwest as far as i'm concerned

i've heard people on here mention "furniture" what exactly do you mean by furniture? our registry is quite small as we already live together and don't need a whole lot so these are things that are mostly just for my own curiousity sake not really out of practicality for my own registry

  • I agree with the completion discount but I've also heard that sometimes a group of people (coworkers, cousins, etc) will get together and buy one big important gift that they know the couple will most need instead of all buying little knick-knacks for the kitchen that aren't so necessary, like a garlic chopper... It makes sense...

  • we both have lived on our own, but moved back in with our parents - and sold all the furniture. We still have plates, towels, etc, but no couch, dining table, etc. We're going to register for some, and when people see them, they'll give us money toward buying a new couch. We don't really need all the little stuff because we have it.
  • we registered for nerf guns because my fiance and i are very playful:)
  • Well my fiance and I both have homes and households of our own, but can use new (matching) sets of the everyday stuff like dishes, cutlery, and linens. And I've always said I wanted to get married so I can have someone buy me a Kitchen Aid Stand mixer! LOL So of course, that was the 1st thing on the registry at BBB!

But we have three pets between us so we registered for a pet water fountain at BBB which I guess is a little weird, too.

And I think it is also weird because we are picky people when it comes to agreeing on items and quality, so we will have probably at least 4 registries! One at BBB, one at Target, one at Boscov's, and one for the Pampered Chef (I'm a consultant so I KNOW the quality and am excited about it! If you want info, feel free to drop me a line! =)

[QUOTE]How about this for weird--no registry at all. And a strong request for no gifts on the invitation. My fiance and I were married before (we did the courthouse thing). After an 8 year hiatus (there was an intervening factor, and marriage, on his part) we are back together, and are planning a "real" wedding and reception this time. We are both having to unload so much duplicate stuff, and between the 2 of us we really have all we need, we don't need more stuff. I totally get registries/gifts for young couples just starting out, but in our situation, we just want our families and friends to be there to be part of our re-union, and to enjoy the party afterwards.

Please don't do this. Any mention of gifts on an invitation is rude, because even saying "no gifts" implies that you assumed they'd get you one in the first place. If you don't register and it's your second wedding anyway, people will get the hint.

  • So, I feel out of the loop, but what's a completion discount and why didn't I know about it when I registered?

Also, we registered for a couple of video games. He enjoys playing, but I'm horrible at shooters (anything Halo-esque) so we asked for a couple of games that would be good for us to play together.
