When did you buy your dress??

Hey ladies!

My wedding is not until November 2011 but I am already debating when I want to go dress shopping.   I am a school teacher and I always spend my summer working on my tan (but not obsessively) and working out.  I want to go try on dresses when I am in my best shape so I can get a better idea of what I  will look like on my wedding day.

Therefore, I was thinking about going in August.  That is about a year and 3 months before my wedding.  I am the type of girl that just wants to get it over with.  I know I won't change my mind because I already know what kind of dress I am looking for (and have known for years!)! :)

So, my question is:  How far in advance did you buy your dress?

i bought mine at alfred angelo right after we got engaged, which was only about 5 months before the wedding. they take up to 12 weeks to come in, so i was pushing time...... i knew exactly what i wanted and i only tried on 1 dress!!!
problem is... i'm very OCD and now i'm freaking out, thinking what if i had tried on more dresses, or chosen a slightly different style? if i had bought it a year in advance, i'd have driven myself crazy by now!!! if i were you, i'd start looking but not buy the dress yet. most stores can order the dress at anytime (at chains stores), so there is no need to rush there. BUT, if you see one that is a one time deal... then at least you have looked around.

I just bought my dress at Bliss Bridal in Ft Worth this weekend! They were super helpful and not at all pushy. It's a really cool place. I didn't expect to buy this weekend (it was only the second store I went to) but they were having a trunk show sale, and the dress was perfect!

I got engaged on Christmas morning and am getting married in June 2011. Waiting 6 months to look at dresses was hard, but I'm glad I did. Looking online at hundreds of dresses really helped me more clearly define the look I wanted for my wedding. It was also really helpful to have booked the venue, because I knew what the style/formality would be.

I know I'm still a year out, but my mom is also a teacher, so I knew I'd make a decision sometime this summer... The sales lady was saying that girls were buying dresses this weekend for their January 2012 weddings, so if you did go now, you wouldn't be the only one shopping early.

We have a long engagement (25 months), so I waited about a year to start looking. I started dress shopping the beginning of this year, ordered it in March and it just came in this weekend!  We're getting married April 23.

I also bought at Bliss Bridal in Fort Worth. I bought my dress in early May and it is due to arrive in early July. We are getting married in October.

I bought my dress at Bliss Bridal as well. They are super friendly and I loved my experience there.

I shopped at Bridal Bliss (it was a great experience)... fell in love with a dress... shopped around and found it for $350 less than Bridal Bliss was selling it (I'm a shopper... always looking for a deal).  I ended up buying it at Emma's Bridal Boutique in Red Oak.  I bought mine about 10 months before the wedding, but our engagement is only 13 months!

I bought my dress 9 months out.  I would recommend you wait to try on dresses and yes you may think you know what you want,  but you may try the dress on and realize it doesn't fit you right.  You just never know when you go dress shopping.  Good luck!

We got engaged on Christmas eve 2009, and we are getting married August 14th of this year and I didn't buy my dress until April.

I wouldn't recommend buying your dress this soon. Got it at Lewisville Bridal Boutique and they were amazing. Although some girls would freak out at buying their dress 4 months before the wedding, it didn't stress me in the least, and I had absolutely no problems finding anything. This way, I know my taste won't change, and I won't gain or lose any massive amounts of unexpected weight in 4 months.

Your tastes could change, or your body could change. A year and 1/2 (essentially) is a long time. I would wait until you have at least under a year to go. But, that's just my opinion.

I bought my dress about 10 months before our wedding....it wasn't planned like that though. It was the second dress I put on and completely fell in love with it - mom was "Are you serious?!? No more shopping?" but I knew and she knew I wouldn't find anything else. The key was to stop looking....which was hard but I did and any dresses I saw after the fact didn't measure up to mine.
I got it at Priscilla of Boston in Preston Center. Brooke there was super nice and completely amazing when crazy thoughts of "what if's" entered my thoughts. I also got my reception dress and BM dresses at the same shop.

I found my dress at a well known pricey bridal shop in the area. Ordered it from Georgio's in Waco for $600 less than what they were charging.

I bought my dress in March and I'm getting married in October.  If you get it early, I also recommend that you stop looking.  In fact, I may have to stop watching Say Yes to the Dress, too, because on Friday's episode I really liked one of the dresses and starting having small doubts about my dress.  But, I'm so damn indecisive.  :)

For my November wedding, I went in January (got engaged at Christmas) and my dress came in in early March (from AA).

I bought my dress in February and my wedding is in Oct.  It was the first dress I put on and I knew it was my dress.  I have questioned it a few times but then I put it on again and remember why I bought it so quickly.  I'm like you and want to get it over with and if you know what you want and you try it on and it feels like the dress then I say go for it but STOP looking.  I watch Say Yes to the Dress and I remember the feeling of my dress and know I found the right dress for me!  Good luck!

I had a situation similar to yours.

I am getting married this November, but found the dress I wanted last September.  However I didnt buy it then, I waited until January and after I had tried on other dress to make sure I knew it was the one.

Its really more important that you know its the right dress and stop shopping as soon as you  buy yours becuase otherwise you will second guess yourself.

I bought my dress about a year before the wedding, but I'm not one to change my mind after I bought it. If you are, I would wait. I haven't looked at anymore dresses since.

Thank you so much for the suggestions.

I think that maybe I will go and look but definitely not buy.  Then, when time gets closer, I will go to the one I like and make sure it is "the one".
