Wow, that's awful! I hope no one was hurt, and that all of their brides can find other venues.

So sad! I photographed a wedding at Barr Mansion LAST weekend! I will really miss the Ballroom. :( It was such a pretty place to work and they had great aircondioning - which is something us wedding photographers really appreciate.

I'm one of the Barr Mansion brides...wedding isn't until 7/17, but we don't want to get married there if it's not exactly what we planned for.  They are saying they'll bring in tents...um, no.  Any ideas?!

I know they will bend over backwards to make it right for all future brides  - this photographer took some pics - http://bit.ly/cycJjB

Magnets - I am sure right now it's absolutely gut-wrenching to have to think about other options, but don't be too quick to toss out the still-at-Barr-Mansion-but-in-a-tent idea. One, because it's probably way more cost-effective than tracking down and paying for a new place and rerouthing vendors/reprinting materials (not sure what, if any, refunds Barr will give since they are offering a back-up plan for brides and this falls under "act of God" in contract law.) Two, there are probably very few venues that would replicate "exactly" that experience that you imagined (or ones you could find on such short notice.) At least this way you would still have most of the experience - beautiful and unique grounds, oak trees, the mansion, etc. Three, by that time, they will have worked out all the kinks with the tent or temporary structure and your event will go smoothly. Obviously, there's very little that will assuage your and other brides' frustration and stress about this situation, but the least stressful solution might be to just keep the original plan - with some tweaks, of course.

I was married at Barr Mansion in October.  I'm so very sad to hear that the ballroom is gone...we have such wonderful memories from there...and we always knew we'd return to Austin to visit on an anniversary. I hope they will make the weddings of upcoming brides special.  My experience there was absolutely perfect.  I have NO doubt that Abby and the other coordinators will do anything they can to make each wedding work despite the fire!  Best of luck, magnets!  I do think you should have some faith the Barr folks...they are just as amazing as the site itself.  I'm sorry that your day isn't going to be what you planned...hang in there!

We are getting married at Barr Mansion in January! To top off the burning of the ballroom, I received the email the staff sent out to all of their clients as I was checking into Austin Regional yesterday because I was having some serious pains in my chest and stomach, turns out my stomach lining is infected! WTF?!?! Their email they sent all of their clients was really sweet.  I am concerned about the ballroom being totally different then when we had booked it, but I believe whole heartedly that they will rebuild it and it will be even MORE beautiful than the original one.  I am just thankful that we have 7 months left!  I know the staff will go above and beyond to help out all of the brides with weddings coming up.  We went yesterday to the Pink Tulip to talk about our invitations, and the girl that was helping us said that the staff at Barr Mansion had been calling all vendors yesterday morning to see see if anyone could help them make all upcoming weddings just as amazing as a Barr Mansion wedding should be. Great people!  Keep your head up!  You will still have the wedding you dreamed of!
