Help me be a good daughter

Guys, random question.  When I was little, I used to recite some stupid poem about a squirrel all the time.  My dad goes on about this poem to this day, and always tells me to videotape my kids doing the things I find cute because he regrets not doing so with me and my brother.  So I want to teach my kids this poem before Father's Day and have them recite it for my dad, and I can't remember it or find it anywhere.  All I recall was that it started with "As I sat under the acorn tree, a squirrel came and stared at me."  That's all I've got.  Does ANYONE know this poem or the author?  Google is completely failing me right now.

  • Was it Grey Squirrel?

  • Or perhaps my words are incorrect/out of order according to this website:  http://www.boyscouttrail.com/content/song/grey_squirrel-1797.asp

  • Nope :(  I have read like 80 squirrel poems this morning and can't find it.
  • It didn't end with the squirrel saying "Suck deez nuts" did it?

    No?

    Then I'm no help.

  • Fischey, you're no help? What a shocker! Sorry, Mel, I'm no help either.
  • I'm willing to bet my dad doesn't remember the whole poem, either, so maybe I can just rewrite it.  And then indeed it could end with "Suck deez nutz."

I remember the second line now, but it still doesn't make a damn bit of difference in google's eyes.
  • Google has helped me find some fing DEEP poems about squirrels. Which cracks me up.

  • Whats the second line?
  • Now I want to go back to camp after reading Keb's post. :)
  • I googled cute squirrel poems and before I could type poems this crazy picture of a squirrel spider popped up. I freaked the fuuck out.
  • So I think I've got it.  I remembered a second line, and I think those were the only lines I actually knew...so maybe it's just a little four line rhyme that seemed bigger to me because I was 3 years old and that is a LOT of stuff to remember.

My dad is on leave of absence from work because he just had surgery, so this all started because he texted me that first line this morning. (Usually his texts are knock knock jokes or random movie quotes, so this was nothing strange out of him).   He just followed that initial text up with "Every time I see that picture of you and your brother on the fridge, it reminds me of your little recitals.  You were my little bandit back then."  I'm like sobbing.  My kids are going to grow up, guys.  That's way too much to handle this early in the morning.
  • I remember how I probably tortured my parents by singing The Song that Never Ends over and over and over and over.

And dont be sad Mel! They might grow up, but then you get to experience a different kind of relationship with them that will be just as awesome! You'll get to annoy THEM with knock knock text messages :)

As I sat under the acorn tree
a squirrel came and stared at me
With his tail curled up he reminded me
of Mother's brownstone pot for tea

I think maybe that's the whole thing.

I feel like that kind of rhymes with the rest of the poem, and it's even the right cadence and stuff. Maybe we can take this poem in a new direction.
