September 2012 Weddings

If you have a lot of OOT guests, what's your invitation deadline?

I've heard 2 months and I've heard 3 months.  Half our wedding is OOT and the OOT guests wil receive StDs.  We are trying to keep numbers reasonable (horrible to say but we want a certain number of no's) so we thought doing it at the 2 month mark may keep it to people who really want to be there but don't want to cut it too short either.  What's your goal mail date and your wedding date?

Re: If you have a lot of OOT guests, what's your invitation deadline?

  • i'm hoping to send mine out just before the 2 month mark. we don't really need the rsvp's til 3 days before the wedding, but I plan on asking to have them back about 5 weeks after the invites go out. this will give me plenty of time to hunt down any that i don't get back.

we too have a bunch of OOT guests, but i figure the save the date will be enough notice for them. we sent those at 7 and a half months out, so a bit more than the standard 6 months.
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • My deadline for RSVP is July 1 (but I think i'll make it July 15 cuz our date is Sept 15). Invitations will be sent out at the start of May.
My family is all from out of town; blocks of rooms have been reserved and some are already booked. STDs were sent out in December so everyone has more than enough time to prep lol

I'm really hoping to keep numbers down too and sadly, I'd rather some family not attend to make room for others I wish could be at the dinner.

  • My whole family is coming from out of town. We're sending invites out 3 months before the wedding and asking for responses a little less than 5 weeks before. We need to inform the caterer 4 days before the event but I'm planning on hunting down my relatives for rsvp's and intend to give myself time to do so.

  • We are getting married September 1rst and we are sending out the invites the last week of June. That is a little over 2 months before (1 week more). We are asking for RSVP by August 4th which is a little under a month before the wedding.Hoping that is enough time!

  • We're going to send them in July and have the RSVP date for August 1st.  We need a final count by August 23rd.  (my b-day)

  • Easily 75% of our guests are OOT.  We are getting married on September 22nd and our RSVP date is August 11th (6 weeks out).  Our baker needs a full 3 weeks notice and I have a feeling I will have a really hard time tracking down non-responces from FI's side of the family...they are really bad about that kind of thing so I wanted to give myself some cushion.  We plan on sending invitations out early to mid-July so 10-11 before the big day.

  • The wedding date is September 22, 2012. I would guess about 75-80% of my guests will be from OOT. The venue only needs 10 days notice of the final headcount, but I want to give myself a big enough cushion to contact non-responses. We will use a response date of August 15th and aim to have them out by July 15th.

  • I know it's not the norm or etiquette, but knowing how extremely hard it is financially and work-wise for many of my guests (out of country and OOT) to arrange a trip like this, I feel like STDs are not enough and am feeling I should mail out the invites to them in May, and do local-ish people in June.  Next to no one is in our city, and almost everyone has at least an hour commute driving.  We're blocking 30 rooms for 85 guests, if that paints the picture.

    Am I crazy?

  • My RSVP deadline is August 1, a month before my wedding. I will probably send the invitiations about 6 weeks before that.

There are a lot of OOT guests on my side. We sent STD's at the end of January and there has been a lot of word of mouth communication so I am hoping sending the invites in June will give enough notice.

  • I haven't really thought about this yet. I'm too lazy right now to check my venue contract to see when they need the final count by. I have a lot of OOT guests, and they all received STDs, so I think sending my invites out at the 2 month mark (which would be the end of July) will be fine.

  • I'm sending ours out 2 months before the wedding, the caterer needs the numbers a week before so I am setting the RSVP date as 3 weeks before the wedding so I have 2 weeks to track down scraglers and get the final number to my decorator and the caterer

  • Thanks ladies!  We haven't sent out our STD yet (oops) but my plan is to get it out by the end of the month Feb 29 is exactly 7 months for us.  My plan was to send them out July 30-ish and have RSVPs back August 31 or September 1.  I will be in VA (where FIL live and our wedding is) for a wedding on Sept 1 and figured it would be a good time to go over seating and no-responses with them.  Baker needs headcount 2 weeks before and caterer not until 3 days before so that gives me two weeks to track down no responses.  I think FI's side may have a problem with responding but since neither of us know most of his family that is going to be FMIL's territory.  Also, those are the people we are trying to limit (huge fam, FI talks to none of them) so if I don't get a response before my cake deadline they are going down as a No.

    Anything you'd change?
