QOTD 10/2

For those of you with pets, how will you be taking care of them on your wedding day and/or during your honeymoon?

Re: QOTD 10/2

  • We hope to have a friend or in-home pet sitter look after Lucy day of, she just wouldn't be happy at a traditional doggy daycare since she loves people too much and would want their attention all the time. As far as during a potential honeymoon, might have our 2 best friends look after her at their house or something.

Our two kitties are going to FMIL house - my parents refuse to have them in their home :(
FMIL has a ravine that they like to explore so I'm sure they'll enjoy their mini-vacation.

Can we have a pet appreciation post? :) Love seeing everyone's pets

  • As much as I'd love to have the cats involved in the wedding, that won't be happening.  We will probably be getting ready at our house, so the cats will be fed in the morning, and then we'll be home again the next day.  They can survive overnight by themselves.  As far as the honeymoon, we usually either have my niece or one of my friends stop by to feed them daily.  We do have a teenage neighbor girl that we may talk to as well.  Or, maybe we can talk my mom into staying at our house for a few days.
  • My cat can handle a few hours at home alone ;)

As for the honeymoon, we'll probably ask neighbors. FIs best friend took care of her when we were on vacation last year, but we've moved since then and its no longer close enough for us to ask him to do that again.

  • I think we will be boarding our dog for the wedding since it's a few hours away and everyone we know that normally watches her will be at the wedding with us and staying at a hotel.

For the honeymoon I'm hoping we can get FIs parents and FIs brother to split the time watching her, but haven't talked to them about this yet.

  • I guess we'd better figure that out. Most of the people we've had care for our dog in the past are part of the wedding. There is another family FI found who has previously taken her and they also have a dog so they got along.

Here is a pic of our "baby" - black lab/weimaraner mix named Sienna. :)

  • My FMIL will be coming over to feed and water the cats. They would freak if I tried to take them somewhere else, they'll be better off home alone.

  • We will be hiring a pet sitter to stay with them.

  • I'm not sure what we will do.  Usually when I go on vacation friends come and feed/play with my cat a few times while we are gone, but we are going to be moving to be closer to my new job soon, so we won't have friends close by.  I don't think I can kennel him...he would react VERY badly to that, so I'm probably going to have to start looking for a cat sitter.

  • I am hoping my friend's mom can watch her. I saw her this weekend and she mentioned she would watch our dog for the wedding and for the honeymoon. They have a few dogs of the same breed that our pup has play dates with. We know she will have a great time. But now I feel bad not inviting her to the wedding since she offered!
  • They'll be fine day of. We plan on stopping at our house before we leave for our honeymoon to drop off my dress and any wedding presents we have. DF's parents will stop by periodically that week we're gone. We've done this in the past and our cats were fine.

  • Our herd (we have 4 cats) will be fine with us gone for the weekend, and FI best friend always house sits for us when we go on vacay.

  • We have a cat...
Day of, Maggie will still be at our place (I'll be sleeping at my parents' house with my BMs, I think)... FI and I will be sleeping at home on our wedding night, then leaving for honeymoon next day... She'll be staying at my parents' house for the week. She's super comfortable there, my parents love her, and she has no problem adjusting back and forth between our place and theirs...

  • We have a cat and a dog. We will probably book our dog up at the petsmart hotel for the wedding day and night. The cat can pretty much take care of herself as long as she has plenty of food and water. For the HM, my sister is going to house and pet sit for us.

  • Great questions!!!! I have one rascal belongs to me she's a rotty an she's almost 13 already having hard time moving around etc so assuming she doesn't have any spells she'll be boarded definitely the day of as far as honeymoon well be boarding her then too as its a lot for my dad take on by himself when he has his own dog who is smaller an can be fine in the house all day with use of puppy wet pads. The place we board her at is great and her vet works there which is good in case she has any issues.

  • Luckily I only have a cat. So I will feed him in the morning of the wedding and either me or my mom will feed him that night. During the honeymoon I will ask my mom, FFIL or FSIL's to feed him.

  • This is a great question! We've been going back and forth with this a lot. Our black lab is best friends with my parents' yellow lab so if we have to board them, they will go together. I'd love for Gibson to be somewhere convenient enough to get a quick picture with us all dressed up but I'm not sure that can happen. If we don't board, hopefully someone in my family will be able to take good care of him at my parents house (where he will likely spend the night of the wedding). For the honeymoon, he will spend the week at my parents house. I hadn't thought of having someone stay at my house with him, maybe a cousin who lives at home and wants a little freedom :) thanks for the good ideas!
