Honeymoon...booking/pricing/etc..

Hey everyone,

I think the one thing I'm  behind the game on is honeymoon. We kinda know what we wanna do and where we're gonna book but just haven't put down the deposit yet.  We're less then 6 mths away! Jeez!!
What are you guys doing for honeymoons...how far in advance did you book,  and biggest question - how much do you think is average to spend on a honeymoon?

Thanks!
Em

Im not getting married until next December, but I have already booked ours. We are going to Sandals Grand St Lucian.  We booked super early bc they were having a sale.  I think your ok if you book now.

I'm in the same boat- we are just under 6 months out and have NO idea where we want to go... we can't seem to agree!!! We've narrowed it down to Costa Rica or Greece- both very different places.

I don't think there really is an average... it depends on where you go because the flight can really add a lot to the overall cost. I know flights to Greece are $1,000+. My best friend went to hawaii for 9 nights (she stayed in 2 different places Maui and Honolulu I think), and flight came to a little over $5k, then they spent another $5k on excursions, food etc.

FI and I are budgeting about $8k total I think... which is why we're leaning more toward Costa Rica.

I haven't booked mine yet.  Hopefully this week or the next! I've been trying to pay attention to the flight for some time now. I also wonder if it was bad to wait so long to book.

Avg honeymoon... oh i dont know... I'm sure the scale tips either way depending on the destination and couple's interests.

We were between a Greece Cruise or this resort called Jade Mountain in St. Lucia - both are averaging out to be about 6k.  At first I was feeling really guily about spending 6k on honeymoon...but I need to hear that that's ok lol.

Costa Rica is wonderful - you would loveee :)

We booked ours a few weeks ago, at about 5 months out.

16 nights, Greece and Turkey for about $8,500. We are BEYOND excited. Seriosuly, I'm looking forward to those 2+ weeks perhaps more than I've looked forward to any 2 weeks ever ;-)

It was definitely more than I had intially thought we would spend, but *everyone* was telling to just do it, we'd never regret it. And FI, who's usually the frugal type (his phrase is "cheap bastard"), was ALL over this trip. From the minute Irene (Travel Dreams) showed us a working itinerary, he was like starry eyed in love with this honeymoon. So we did it =)

Only 4.5 months until we get to leave!

i booked mine prob 6 months before, I booked everything myself on the internet, I did a lot of research on trip advisor, etc, went to Italy (venice, rome, amalfi) for 2 weeks - it was amazing

I booked our flights 9 months out - used miles.  Hotels about 4 months, kept looking for deals and the best was through the hotel so I could easily cancel and rebook if need be.

As for average it could be 1k - 15k.  This is really a matter of where you are going, what type of hotel you want, when you are going, and how long you are going for.

We did a southern caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean for a week and a week at Sandals Grande St Lucian for a week directly after.

There's no average...some spend $2K, some spend $10K+...it's really what you can afford.

we went to Greece for 2 weeks and it came to about 9k....there is no real average. It all depends on how long and where you want to go and what type of hotel you want.  We splurged on ours.

Ecg129- so are you leaning toward the Greece cruise or Jade Mountain? And which cruise line are you looking at?

oooh I would love to see them! My email is ecg129 at gmail dot com.

I'm leaning towards Jade because it seems like a once in a life time thing.  :)

we are doing time share so it is different, we have locked down our week in hawaii, but havent nailed down vegas, they person from the time share told us to try back early January.  We have to wait for people to trade their home base, vegas to go somewhere else, which frees up their spot for us.  It is VERY complicated, despite what they tell you on those sales pitches

Jen and Rosanna, we're thinking about Greece too, I'd love to hear more about your plans/trip!  We considered Africa but can't justify the cost and travel time.  On one hand I feel like if we have kids soon (which we plan to) we may never have another opportunity to go.  We're in our late 30's and have done a bit of traveling, but want to do more adventurous trips while we're on the younger side.  We're not getting married until September so we still have time to figure it out.

I don't think you're cutting it close.  My wedding is in January and we're doing a two-part honeymoon.  We booked the second half (Disney) back in July, so about 6 months out.  And the first half (Oasis of the Seas) we only just booked like 2 weeks ago.

I don't think there's really an average.  I would spend however much you're comfortable with spending!  I think for the most part people at least somewhat splurge and spend more than what they would on any regular vacation.
