What's on your feet?

I usually wear Asics for weight lifting and a different pair for jogging with some gel insoles and arch supports. I just bought a pair of Reeboks that looked supportive for my Insanity work out and blew the sole in half after starting Insanity on Monday.

So my question is what kind of shoe are you wearing? Do you put inserts inside? And what kind of workouts do you do in them?

Re: What's on your feet?

  • I was wearing asics and just switched to new balance (for everything.)  I wear ones for my specific gait, so don't have inserts, but do have inserts in my work shoes (flats) on order of my knee/leg doc because of how much pressure I put on my heels when I step.

  • I wear Nike Running shoes for doing the couch to 5K work out.  They are amazing and well worth the money.

  • I'm currently wearing older Nikes that lost their support two years ago but my other shoes broke so...I'm stuck with them.

  • I'm also a recent NB convert.  I switched from my trusty Asics to New Balances two pairs ago.  Love them for running and Insanity.  So much more room in the toes.

I have Nike cross trainers that I wear for weights and classes at the gym.

  • I wear Brooks Glycerins! They are awesome. It feels like running on a cloud.

  • Vibram (treks) - lifting, outdoor events (hiking, running, fording rivers while backpacking, etc)
    Vibram (kso) - in-gym cardio.

  • I wear a large variety of shoes depending on my workouts--each is the "right" one for what I'm doing.

Nike Free TR Fit 2 for crossfit and lifting.  They are a minimalist shoe that its perfect for weightlifting and crossfit because your feet don't have a lot between the shoe and the ground and you can use your toes/foot muscles to stabilize yourself.

Asics Nimbus for running, particularly long runs.  They have the right amount of stability and cushion to withstand the pavement pounding.

Brooks racing flats for speed workouts and road races.  They are light and minimal but still provide the appropriate amount of support for pavement running.

Brooks Cascadia for trail running--they are very stiff and sturdy and are great for rocks, gravel, roots, gaining footing on less than stable ground.

Merrell boots for hiking.  They are very stiff and provide stability through the ankle for tough hikes.
  • Nike Dual Fusion...and they are AMAZING!!!  I used to get so many blisters running and now my feet are fine even after 8 miles :)

  • My feet were falling asleep on the elliptical using ordinary tennis shoes, so I switched to Vibram Fivefingers.

If i'm on the elliptical for too long they'll still start to go a little numb, but the problem for the most part has gone away.

I wear them for all of my indoor fitness activities (including classes now).

  • I wear Mizuno's and I love them...best running shoes I've ever had...I wear them for everything right now but I really should get a pair of cross-trainers to do my other activities (but shoes are expensive...)

As you can see...everyone has their own brand/shoe that they love so my suggestion is to go to a speciality shoe and have someone fit you...and recommend what kind of shoe is good for YOUR feet.

    Good luck!!
  • Thanks everyone.

I am going shopping tomorrow. I usually use orthodics because I have some arch issues so tomorrow I will start the search hopefully can find something comfy before I work out tomorrow evening.
