Hotel Location - closer to venue or church?

We're getting married at St John the Baptist in Manayunk. Our reception is at Knowlton Mansion in NE.

Trying to decide if we should pick a hotel closer to the venue or church. At first, I assumed closest to venue bc of drinking/driving. We looked at a hotel in NE Philly, it's almost 45 minutes from the church (it's north/sort of out of the way of everything) and 25 minutes from venue. Another option is hotel in Bala Cynwd - about 10 minutes from church and easy access to highway, probably 35ish minutes from venue. We are providing shuttles for hotel guests to and from reception either way.

Which option do you think makes more sense?

    To me, it makes more sense to have it closer to the venue.  At the end of the night (regardless of drinking) I wouldn't want to drive 45 mintues back towards the church.  I want to hop in my car and hop into my bed as quick as possible.

    Definitely closer to the venue... As a guest, I wouldn't mind having a little bit of a drive earlier in the day to the church... it would suck a lot more to have a long drive after a long day/night of celebrating.

    Thanks ladies. That's what I was thinking too. Only downfall is that the hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere and still almost a 30 minute drive from venue (even though mapquest says 11). Urgh.

    I googled it - hotel closest to venue is 6.8 miles away (north of NE Philly). Closer to church is 8.5 miles away from venue, but closer to Manayunk and church.
