How Does My Menu Look?

Our food will be served buffet style. It will not be a very heavy meal (I thought this would be okay since it's a 1pm wedding) but I want to make sure it's substantial enough.

We will be serving:
Warm Crab Dip with bread or crackers
French Onion Jambalaya (with sausage)
Seafood Gumbo
Cold Cut Tray with French Bread
Fruit Tray
Wedding cake

Drink options will be:
Sweet/Unsweet Tea
Water
Soft Drinks (probably just regular or diet)
Beer (is it okay to have beer only? my dad said he'd like to keep alcohol minimal since it's during the day...)

beer only is okay.   adding a wine or maybe sangria would be better.

I would add a clear soda like Sprite.  Personally thing, but I do not drink brown sodas, plus they (clear sodas) tend to be non-caffeine.

I would add a non-meat/fish option.   Fruit, bread and cake is all someone who is vegetarian will eat.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • The only thing that I might add is something like maybe a really simple pasta dish.  Pasta tends to be a crowd pleaser for those that are a bit picky and certainly does not break the bank.

As for the alcohol, I would include wine as well.  Not everyone likes beer so at least it gives another alcoholic option without going too crazy.

  • I'd add some cheese to the cold cut tray, and maybe some veggies - either veggies with dip or some salad cups or something else that's mainly a vegetable to round out the meal and/or give people a lighter option. Otherwise, that seems like a good amount of food.

  • 1pm is lunch time.  It needs to be equivalent to a meal.  I think if you add a pasta dish as a PP mentioned, you'll be ok.
  • Thanks for  your help!

We have a few people who don't eat meat, but they still eat seafood so I am not really worried about a vegetarian option. I may add a green salad or maybe the pasta dish to give a little more variety though.

The sprite idea is a good one; I hadn't even thought about that in terms of caffeine.

    Thanks again!

They may eat seafood, but seafood gumbo may not be their style. I agree with PPs: Add a basic alfredo pasta dish or even baked mac & cheese. A green salad and all the fixings would be an excellent addition as well.
  • Or you could do a pasta alfredo with broccoli and red & orange bell peppers.  That could combine your vegetarian dish and salad.  It's cheaper than buying all the salad stuff too.
