OMG I am in panic mode!!!

My wedding was planned for 10/13/12 in Fort Lauderdale but my fiance agreed we wanted to have a bigger wedding in Atlanta where we live next year. Long story short, the hotel we booked in Ft. Lauderdale will not let us cancel the rooms so we have to get married Ft. Lauderdale and on 10/13/12!!! I do not have anything together. We were going to get married on the beach so that will be fine but I do not have venue for the reception. OMG, IDK what to do. I need to find a resonable restaurant or hotel that will allow us to have a reception.

Sorry also the Maxwell room if you want to dance.

Completely understandable but you need to calm down :) How many guests are you expecting or plan to invite? There is one restaurant I have in mind and it's in Ft. Lauderdale called Maxwell Room.
  • Also check out Michele's Dinning Lounge. It's a place which offers upscale dining at neighborhood prices. Def worth checking them out.

  • Please provide more information so we can help you :)
  • If I'm understanding you correctly, you booked a room block at this hotel, so there might be something in the contract that could help you cancel. Please double check your contract, because unless you were required to put down a deposit (a big no-no in room blocks) you should be able to either cancel or allow it to lapse without booking anything. ALL the room block should be is a guarantee of a specific number of rooms at one set price for the night of- and possibly before- your wedding. In which case, if no one books it by 1 month before the date, those rooms get released by the hotel- with no penalty to you, only any guests that missed out. If it's anything else, then you should probably seek legal counsel of some sort, because that is very fishy.
As to your other concerns, deep breath. If you want to push forward planning, then let us know how many guests you will be inviting, and what kind of atmosphere you want. You might have more options for a venue than you realize, and we'll be happy to help you figure it out so you can pull this off! GL!
  • Chart House in Ft Lauderdale is an affordable option for dinner only, too cramped for dancing. The Maxwell Room might be a great option for you but I think we need more details to point you in the right direction!

<div>Yes read your contract. Most contracts will never let you cancel without penalty. But the loophole is to see if you guaranteed a number of rooms (like you only have 10% attrition) or if it was just a courtesy block that will be released 1 month in advance. If it is just the courtesy block you just let it slip by with no one booking. Its a loophole but hotels will not let you cancel a block without penalty. Read your contract let us know if we can help</div><div>

  • Thanks ladies! We are expecting about 30-50 people. All of us will be coming from out of town also so I don't want a reception site that will be too far from the airport and the hotel. I will check out the Maxwell Room.

I reread the contract last night and it said we would be responsible for 90% since the date is for 10/13. Yikes!! Since I am not interested in spending money paying for hotel rooms that I will not be enjoying we are going forward with our wedding in Florida 10/13.

Well good luck in finding a venue. Another last ditch measure would be to let friends, family, neighbors, acquaintances, co-workers and their friends and family in the So. FL. area know the rate (which should be better than the rack rate) and see if you can get people to book for a mini-staycation- rather than feel pressured into having your wedding when and where you don't want it. I personally would probably rather do that than try to plan my wedding in just 2 and half months, but I'm particular about details and would rather plenty of time to plan it out without spending more than I'd like.
I hope you find something that will work for you, I'm not too familiar with downtown Ft. Lauderdale, but I've heard the Maxwell Room is amazing. You might also look into the Bonnet House and Gardens or the Stranahan House. GL!
