I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry at the sweet souls over on The Bump.

Pampers is not a charity, it is a business. They cover your baby's butt, but first they have to cover their own. It makes sense to target a demographic that statistically has more children in the U.S. (Spanish speakers). It's not a perfect metric but making Spanish website-users a proxy for the growing Hispanic market is a marketing tool for a company that wants to engender loyalty in a group that (on the whole) is having more children than others.

Is this really complicated?? Are people really up in arms about this??

If this was the other way around with the better prizes on the English speaking site, it would be a huge uproar with Pampers getting sued for discrimination. So I can see why these women would be really upset. But damn, it's just a toy that they had to buy a million diapers to receive.

I see your point, but most advertising doesn't cater to Spanish speakers (nor should it necessarily and English is not the national official language) so by default, to get up in arms about this one promotion would make it fair for people in parts of the country where other languages are common to get upset that the promotions are ONLY in English.

I stand by my point that Pampers and baby product marketing analytics are pretty good at knowing who goes for what promotions. A Big Wheel (or whatever that product giveaway was) might be a bigger draw for Hispanic families. We don't know that Pampers concluded that their English-speaking costumers already had Big Wheels.

I just shy away from conspiracy theories, particularly when a diaper company catering to a significant demographic isn't that unusual.
