Wedding in a round?

What do y'all think about having seats set up like this http://www.intimateweddings.com/blog/unique-ceremony-ideas-ceremony-in-the-round/ so everyone can see? What are the disadvantages? What are the advantages?

Re: Wedding in a round?

  • Did it work well?? My main question is, was it weird to have people right behind you and right behind him? Could everyone see?
  • It looks cool in pictures, but it doesn't seem very practical.  The picture you linked shows a very large wedding party with their backs to a number of guests, which to me isn't a very good view.
  • To piggyback off Stage, theatre can work in the round because there's usually a lot of movement. Weddings are so static and stationary for the most part that you're pretty much guaranteed half the seats will have a view of only people's backs the entire time.

  • I like the idea. There's a beautiful Catholic church,  on the UConn campus that is set up in the round. The altar area is included as part of the circle, along with the pews, which look like rustic benches. It's a very cozy, intimate space when compared to the traditional church lay out.

If you divide your space in four wedges and use one wedge for your 'altar,' it would probably work out well. Also, consider having you and fi face the center of the circle, with the officiant's back toward the guests, so they will be able to see you during the ceremony.

  • Whether or not it works for me would really just depend on the logistics of the wedding.

Will any of your guests never get to see anything but backs?  If that's the case, I might reconsider, but if you can position yourselves so that at any given time at least some of your guests will be able to see your faces, at least from the side, it might have positive possibilities.
  • My church is in the round. DH & I stood on an elevated altar in the middle.

That being said, we didn't have assigned bride-or-groom sides or guests "ushered" to seats, so people just sat where they were comfortable.

We definitely have a great variety of pictures, as our photography team had more access to angles.
