July 2012 Weddings

*Nancy*

I have kind of a stupid question that I could probably look up, but I'd rather ask you :)

Do Jordan almonds go bad? I was thinking of doing the 5-almonds thing as a favor (we weren't originally going to have them, but now I kind of want them), but I would have to do them gradually over time. I won't have time to do them in the week leading up to the wedding. If I bought them in bulk, like, now, would they be totally gross in 2 months?

Also, do you have the explanation or where I can find the explanation for why there are five given? I know, again, I can look this up, but I'd rather hear this from someone who's in Italy.

Thank you!

  • I know this is for Nancy but as far as I know the Jordan Almonds don't go bad that quickly. We bought ours a month ago for our wedding on July 28th (:

  • Fantastic! Thanks, Amanda!

Where did you order from? I haven't researched this at all yet. This was a new project to occupy my mind while fiance's in Vegas. :)

  • Hmm I actually don't know where we got ours from because my mom bought them. She showed them to me and I didn't even ask! I'll find out tonight and let you know. Projects are a great distraction (: I will be trying to do the same when my FI goes to his bachelor party.

I'll be honest (and I don't want to sound like a snobby jordan almond connoisseur or anything) but US jordon almonds have nothing on the Italian ones and I think they are usually a bit stale when you buy them (unless there are some special jordon almond places that I don't know of).  I used to eat them (and love them ) all the time in the states but once I had italian ones, OMG.  You just taste the freshness and they have such a huge variety of them.  When I brought some home for my mom last time she totally noticed the difference.

And so that you know in italian they are called confetti (isn't that funny?).  The 5 almonds stand for health, wealth, longevity, fertility and happiness.

ETA:  If you wanted to do it as a favor you could do a confettata!  I love them...it's basically a jordan almond candy bar.  You have different jordan almonds and provide thos little sachet like bags and people fill them up.  Very popular here.

How interesting! Thanks, Nancy. I found a place online that sells different flavor ones (like coconut and mint chocolate chip!), but believe me, I can imagine they have NOTHING on the real thing. :) I still think it would be nice to do.

How are you guys packaging yours? I found tulle/organza circles that I can tie with a ribbon for pretty cheap. Since there will only be five, I was worried that it would look silly if I got one of those boxes or the sachets that have the built-in tie. But then I won't be able to put a sticker or anything on them to describe the significance, which I really want to do.

Sorry for the billion questions. I have like 982734545 hours of work to do but I can't get my mind off of almonds.

ETA: I replied right when you updated, Nancy! :)

  • Originally, I was going to attach the 5 almonds (wrapped up like you said) onto the favor (my mugs):  But then i realized that not everyone is going to get a mug.  So I was thinking of putting  all 8-10 packages in some kind of container on the table with a little note about what they symbolize and everyone at the table can take one.

I was originally thinking of doing the confettata that I mentioned above but I can't do that and my favors and we have to do a favor.

  • livraisonOr I was thinking a little label like this which I would handwrite in miniscule lettering.  I'm getting back to NY a month before the wedding so I have lots of time to do all of this.
