I saw this ring listed on a jewelry classifieds that I frequent, and I tohught some people here might find it interesting since there's been a lot of talk of diamond alternatives. It's a white sapphire that's an antique cut (Old European). It's the prettiest most clear white sapphire I've seen, and it's pretty sizeable too. Then again, I only have pics to judge it by. http://diamondbistro.com/category/219/Colored-Center-Stone/listings/18997/White-Sapphire-Ring.html
I know this sounds like a plug, but it's not. I just think it's really pretty, and would make a pretty engagement ring. Plus it's only $500. Too bad I'm on a jewelry ban right now, haha.
To make this a discussion, post pics of things you would buy if you had the money. Doesn't have to be a ring.
Things I'd buy...first, I'd pay off my credit cards. Then, I'd fix my car. It needs an intake gasket or some such nonsense, as well as a new fender (long story) and some sense knocked into the heating/cooling system (it heats and cools, but won't blow air).
Then I would go on a major shopping spree. I want more shoes and clothes for work. And being mildly fashion-obsessed is how I maintain my sense of NYC-girl street cred/identity. (Please take that statement with two to three grains of salt.)
I'd also get a punch card for my ballet classes so I can stop writing individual checks for $14 each time. I'd take more dance classes in general. And maybe start up voice lessons again. And acting classes. And therapy. Also, stuff for our house. Redecorating is going very slowly due to being in a money crunch.
Does a plane ticket, accomodations, and program fees count even though I have no picture? I really want to do this opera program in Italy, but it's something like $7000 not including air fare to Chianti... not gonna happen I'm afraid!
Panda, that house is really cool looking!
ETA: OMG SHOES!!! hahaha... but seriously, I would go on a major shoe spree if money were no object.

Hellz to the yeah.
It would be really awesome, but it seems like so much money for 6 weeks!
I can totally sympathize with wanting to take more classes for stuff. I would love to take dance, but it's mostly kids classes where I live. I also hate having to write individual cheques (can't bring myself to spell it the American way... sorry!) for my voice lessons.

First I'd buy a car. Honestly, this junk car probably would run better than mine. My car died the other day, and it was extremely scary. It dies all the time, but so far I've been lucky and been in a safe place. Yesterday I wasn't in a very safe spot when it died and I was an hour between both school and home, so I had no one to call. I spazzed.
However, it's a dream, so i'd pick this baby.
And I'm drooling over this on modcloth, but on my college student income, I will not buy it (I wont. I wont. I wont!! alfjakhg!)
When you love someone, you can tell. When you're in love with someone, everyone else can tell.
I had to give up my African safari vacation that I was planning with my mom this year. Bonuses weren't what they have been in the past...so yeah, i'd totally buy my vacation back!
And I'd by some new clothes. I'd spend more than $20 on each item and they'd probably last more than a month... I'm talking to you, Forever 21 $9.50 jeans />:(
If I had monies then I'd go to Cuba and pay of my cc. I don't want any new bling yet.

We're talking about going to Thailand for 3 weeks for our honeymoon, which is massively awesome, but I really dream of taking an around-the-world trip!
And when I was checking flights for work to go to our next conference in May, I saw that OneWorld (the international airline group that American Airlines is part of - and I usually fly AA) has round-the-world tickets - one set price, you can stop in 3, 4, or 5 continents on your way around the world, but your tickets have to all go in one direction (east or west) without backtracking, so you literally go all the way around the world. SO COOL! They're $3200 each ticket for economy class to 3 continents, which is a lot, but for up to 9 stops, it's a really, really good deal! Apparently they had this on the movie "Up in the Air"? I haven't seen it, my colleague told me.
I mentioned it to BF, but we'd have to save way more than is probably possible. And we'd have to take 5 weeks for the whole thing to make it worthwhile, so we can enjoy each place, and so we don't get massively burnt out. But we'll have the time, as it will be right before he reports for training, and I will have just finished at my new job and waiting until January to start grad school. Soooo I'm going to TRY to save that much! It's probably impossible. But at least I'll have motivation to save a lot, and having extra savings is never bad!
We even planned our dream vacation last night (as BF's sister had left to go back home). We want all direct flights to make our lives less stressful, so that somewhat dictates our route. We'd go from Miami to San Francisco. Spend 3 days in San Fran before going to Beijing. Spend 1 week in Beijing, and then go to Bangkok. Spend 10 days in Bangkok before going to Mumbai. Spend 1 week in Mumbai before going to London. Spend 2 days in London before going to Sevilla. Spend 1 week in Sevilla before going back to Miami.
It would be AMAAAAAAZING! But even if we cut short the expensive locations and maximize the cheap ones, it'll still be massively expensive.
Cate - I've done round the world airfare before. It's possible to get better deals that fit your itinerary better and be cheaper. I think mine cost $2100 when I went 3 -4 years ago.

And I'd put this in the back:
ZOMG I want a kitchen garden. This puts my current garden to total shame.
And we'd probably get one or two of these:
On a more realistic note, I'd probably buy this:

I'm secretly hoping FI gets that for me as my wedding gift, but there's a long story behind that.
