FINALLY have a date... suggestions appreciated!

Hi ladies! So today my fiance and I finally picked a date for our wedding and SO excited! We're having a spring wedding hopefully outdoors. Our budget is tight and I would like to do as much of the planning and decorating as possible myself. I'm hoping you all could give me ideas on what you might have done or are doing to to help your budgets. We're doing the invites and center pieces outselves, any other ideas/help would be great!

Thanks Laughing

Happy wedding planning to you all!

Re: FINALLY have a date... suggestions appreciated!

  • I have super detailed DIY posts in my bio in my siggy.

For invites, we did ours for around $300 including postage. We bought a PDF from a seller on etsy, bought the pocketfold supplies from C&Ps, and put them together ourselves (well mostly me lol).

For centerpieces, we are doing half ourselves to offset the ones by the florist. We are doing 3 glass cylinders filled with fake orchid heads in pink and green and a floating candle. We got the floating candles from IKEA and the orchid heads from eBay lol.

Our budget was around $10k-12k and we're looking at coming in at $3k under budget. Woo hoo lol.

Happy planning and stick around this board!

  • Hi and congratulation!! We made our invitations ourselves probably for about the same as Zims. We used Microsoft publisher to come up with a simple design for the invitation and inserts. We bought the pockets and card stock at a paper wholesaler near our hometown and printed and assembled. A lot of work, but totally worth it! I've seen pictures of center pieces that involve putting colorful fruit like limes, lemons, or oranges in tall hurricanes that I thought were cute. I have no idea how those costs would compare to flowers though. Our venue included most of ours and the other ones were Lilly bowls with different gold ornaments and ribbon since it was a December wedding. Have you thought about colors? Ps sorry about the lack of paragraphs...I'm on my phone.

Haha, maybe I'll do like a super delayed AW post with some pictures since I didn't even start posting til I was married!  Oddly enough, I don't have a picture of my centerpieces or the invitations =(
  • Yeah lrh what the hell? I like you and I don't even know what your wedding looked like. at. all. Pics now.

One great DIY tip is to accumulate paper goods or glassware over time from Michael's or AC Moore etc. They have coupons every week so I went weekly to buy a pack of votive holders, and my SIL did the same with her invite packs--which she printed herself and they came out great! Definitely ways to cut corners and still have a great ceremony and rocking party! Prioritize what's important to you and your FI and decide what you can live without. Favors for instance ;)

  • Hi and congrats!

A friend of mine designed the invites and we had then printed at Office Max.  There was no way in hell I was spending that much an invites that people toss in the trash.  We also did some little things around the reception area like shells and candles.

Me either! I can't believe how much some places charge like wedding paper divas. I didn't want to do calligraphy either for this reason
  • Cali designed my invites and I had them printed at a shop.

I ordered bulk flowers and will be putting the bouquets and bouts together myself.

My centerpieces will be a "bouquet" of flower-shaped cookies, which will double as party favors.

My stepmom is making cheesecakes rather than ordering a crazy expensive cake.

Our venue is "empty" so we got to choose our own catering, as well as purchase our own booze and hired our own bartenders.

My wedding is still technically "out of season" (at least here in WI), so I got a few discounts just for that (e.g. my DJ). Apparantly wedding season starts in May, so we're just barely making the cut-off at April 28th.

[QUOTE]We did everything DIY as well, and we came in under 9000. Got a theme in mind?

<div>No real "theme" just anything spring! We want some nautical things. We're not really over the top, simple and laid back best desribes us :) Although my fiance wants penguins. LOL </div>
