Wedding Invitations & Paper

Invite Debacle

You will not believe what happened to my invitations! Since we are having a short engagement and I have horrible handwritting, I thought "I'll just print labels rather than writing all the names and addresses". Bad idea!

I loaded the list into a site to create the labels and when they printed, the wrong names came with the wrong addresses for about 25% of the file. I didn't notice. One of my sorority sisters got invites addressed to my boss and his family, etc. It was nuts! I've now spent hours tracking down invites and explaining to everyone what happened.

While this is completely laughable - and believe me, I do laugh that this happened - I post this as a warning. Check your invites.

Re: Invite Debacle

  • I know address labels are an etiquette no no, but I will admit we used them as well. We got some really nice ones that matched our invites. While we didn't run into that problem, they were still a pita to do. It took us forever to create a template in Word with the correct dimensions of the labels so that I could type them all in the labels and print one full sheet at a time. Once we figured out the dimensions, which caused us to waste a few sheets of the labels, everything went fine after that.
  • I chose to hand address everything, and shortly after I sent out my invitations, something happened that reaffirmed my belief in hand writing them. A friend of ours got married on September 4th. When her inviations went out, the RSVP envelope had a label on it. The bride typed in the wrong address- her house number, with her parents street, and a totally bizarre zip code. So as you can imagine, she had quite a nightmare on her hands. And she had a huge wedding- probably 350 guests! Eeek.

So... I was sure glad when I hand addressed all my invites. I write my address so many times as it is, it was easy to get it right. :)
