Black Tie Productions

Hi, everyone!

I live in DC, but will be getting married in Holly, MI. I am working with the Holly Hotel and they recommended I contact Black Tie Productions for DJ services. I'd like my DJ to play some music for the ceremony and then the reception. They have a great site and an instant quote feature, which is helpful. So I have three questions:

1. Has anyone used Black Tie Productions?
2. They quoted me $870 for the ceremony and 5 hours of reception music. Does that seem reasonable to you?
3. If you have been happy with the DJ you're dealing with, who are they? I'd like to shop around :)

Thanks everyone!

Re: Black Tie Productions

  • $870 definitely sounds reasonable...actually seems like it's on the cheap side but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. My two best wedding decisions from my feb wedding were my DOC and my DJ. I used Ron Johnson from night and day productions. I believe his cost during a regular season would be around $1200. He was amazing! and super helpful leading up to the wedding not just the day of.
  • Thanks, KBLDC2012! I'm curious: what does DOC mean?
  • day of coordinator...I highly recommend using one if you aren't using a wedding planner. I didn't do any DIY decorations or anything but she made sure to coordinate between all the vendors and make sure everything went smoothly which it never does and it didnt for mine but I didn't know about almost any of the issues until I forced them out of her the week after the wedding....It was only like $300 to have her at the ceremony than at the reception for almost the entire night...if you want to look into it, her name is shelly from simplicitydoc.com.
  • Paul from Sunshine Entertainment is AMAZING!  He was our DJ at our wedding last November and he was awesome.  He was $750 for unlimited hours.  I'm not sure if he is still charging that, but I would DEFINITELY recommend him.  Give him a call!

  • Thanks,  KBLD2012 & crhein26! I'll definitely consider your recommendations.
  • Our wedding is in a week but so far our DJ has been fabulous and is less than $850 (don't have the contrat for exact numbers).  He is doing the ceremony, which will be outside, and reception, 7 hours of music.  He also has an affordable up-lighting package.  His name is Joe Cusumano and he owns JAC Entertainment.

Thanks mlynn1223! And yay for your one week until your wedding day Laughing

  • I happened upon your post and just thought I would give you a little heads up- I have a very close family friend who has been a wedding planner in the Flint/Detroit/Ann Arbor area for almost 40 years now (I know, it sounds like he's probably out of touch, but TRUST ME, he's amazing!!) and he has nothing good to say about Black Tie Productions. I'm currently planning my wedding for next August, and that was the only DJ company he warned me against! He suggested a man named Dean Rush to myself and my FI, but that was just his suggestion. So, even if you don't go with Dean (which by all means, look around!) I would advise you probably not go with Black Tie. Again, I trust this man with all aspects of my wedding, and I trust his judgement 100%

Good luck, congratulations, and have fun with the rest of the wedding planning!!!
