Surprises at your wedding?

Are you having any surprises on your wedding day - someting at the ceremony or recpetion that you are not telling anyone about?

We are having a bagpiper at our ceremony. Only my FI and I know about it and it will be a surprise for my Scottish family.

Re: Surprises at your wedding?

  • We are going to have fireworks for our wedding, and no one knows expect my parents and I.  We are getting married on Labor Day weekend, so it should be a nice end of summer surprise!
  • My Fiance is a huge Michigan/Michigan football fan (he went to undergrad there and our wedding is on campus) so I'm surprising him with a Michigan football groom's cake. Also, our local thanksgiving parade has these big paper mache heads...and they happen to have one of Bo Schembechler (former michigan coach... our cat also happens to be named Bo), so I'm going to have someone in the head come out with the cake! I think fiance will find it funny :)

  • I'm planning to sing "White Blank Page" by Mumford and Sons to my FI, with my son playing guitar and my sis singing with me. The song means alot to us and he has no idea. My son and i practice in the evenings when FI is working.
  • We will be doing a choreographed dance with my son - it will be a surprise (well a couple will know so we can make it happen lol).

  • I have something I'd like to do with my dad, but I won't ask him until I go home in March.  It will be something only, he, I and the photographer will know about.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • FI and I are taking dance lessons so we won't be doing the 8th grade shuffle for our first dance.  Most people close to us are aware of the classes, but we invited 220 people, so a lot of guests won't know.  That is as close to a surprise as we're going to get.

  • @SCogs18 lol about da 8th grade shuffle.

My fiance and I are thinking about having a surprised choreographed dance since it's not expected of us. We were actually hopin to do the traditional first dance (8th grade shuffle lol) then maybe later on in da nite (I will do a dress change) & we will do a choreographed salsa/bachata dance (to represent my Latin side). Still not decided yet. Anybody think this'll be too much? Like we're tryin to over do it?

  • Our wedding is quirky and fun all over, but the one thing we're hiding from almost everyone is the garter removal.  FI conceived of this and I died laughing.  (I don't plan to toss a bouquet btw; I'm only okay with this because of his plans)

For the Tarantino fans: FI is going to tie me to a chair, copy the dance from Reservoir Dogs to Stealer's Wheel and cut my garter off with a straight razor (as opposed to the fate of the poor cop in the film).  A LOT of our family and friends love that movie so they'll recognize it immediately.
  • FI is full blooded Portuguese and I am not Portuguese at all.  So we were going to have his cousin's dance troop come in right after dinner and do a couple of dances for everyone.  We think it would be a nice way to incorporate his culture into the wedding since we can't do it with the food or anything like that.  This will be the surprise for our families.

The surprise for HIM will be that I'm going to work with his cousin to learn one of the dances and perform with the dance troop.  I think it will be a nice surprise, what do you think?

Oh and my brooch bouquet is another item that will be a bit of a surprise too.

  • Nothing for us but my niece turns 16 the day before. So I'm having my baker make a giant cupcake decorated girly and we'll surprise her with singing happy birthday.
  • We're having an Elvis impersonater come in unannounced (only our DJ knows) to sing 4 songs at our reception and take pictures with us and our guests. Our family will love it....and I'm pretty excited too :)

Love all of the surprise ideas!
