B&G Slideshow at Reception - Oahu

Is anyone planning to have or had at their wedding a slideshow/video showing photos of the bride & groom?

If so, do you have an idea of cost for the projector and screen rental and could recommend a place I could rent from?

Also, did you have it showing one time only at some point of the party or had the video looping throughout the whole reception? I'm not sure whether we have a preference of one over another, any pros/cons?

Thanks!

We had a slideshow and a video.  Slideshow was of photos of us since childhood, and then growing up.  Video was kind of an interview-style love story where we talked about how we met, proposal, etc.

We showed both back to back, about 6.5 minutes total, after all of the speeches were done.  I think it worked well to show it only once as everyone focused and then the screen/projector were put away so they would stop taking up space.

Sorry I don't have any recommendations for Oahu, but most DJ or lighting companies will rent them or have contacts. Forgot to mention, we had gotten a few quotes, and rentals were about $250-350 for both the screen and projector.

We also had one and it was broken in to 4 "parts": me growing up, DH growing up, some couples pictures then pictures of us with friends. I think it was maybe... 11 minutes total?
It went somewhere in between my brother playing the ukulele and father/daughter dance? I forget... but it was towards the end of our 'formal' program.

We rented from Audio Visual, Hawaii AV (http://www.hawaiiav.com/). The contact there is Patrick. For $175 we got a projector, tripod screen plus all cables, delivery, set up and strike.

I can send you his contact info if you're interested. Send me an email at candc.oneill at yahoo.com

We did a photo slideshow that I created on my Macbook.  We had 3 sections...me growing up, hubby growing up, then the two of us together and with friends.  My reception was in a ballroom, so we rented the hotel's screen for $25 or $50.  I was lucky enough to be able to use my company's projector for free.  Typically, the rental prices I saw for projector and screen were about $250.

We showed the slideshow towards the end of our formal program (between speeches and cake cutting).  I have also been to weddings where they have it cycling through during the cocktail hour.  Showing it at one point in the reception calls more attention to it, but some guests might get bored.  Having it running throughout gives people the option of whether or not they want to see it.  It might also be nice because groups of people can watch it together and allows them to share memories with each other ("Oh, this was at...").

At one point, the price of renting the projector put me off, so I had considered buying a small TV to set up on the side, have the video cycling, and people could watch at their leisure.  At least in the end I'd have a TV for my $250!

We had a love story video & a slideshow too. So we ended up showing the love story video as part of our formal program near the end of our reception and cycled through the pictures from our slideshow during the cocktail hour. Since we made our love story video at the last minute, we prepared a slideshow thinking just in case the story video was a total bomb we still had something to show as a backup. Thankfully, the story video turned out great but since the slideshow was already made, we decided to put it to use so our guests could look at something while we were away taking pictures. My sister-in-law ended up borrowing a projector from a friend for us to use for free, but I think you can just search online for projector rental. Our hotel let us use the screen for free but quoted us $550 to rent their projector which is outrageous.
