Hotel help

FI and I were planning on staying in downtown Louisville for our mini-moon (3 nights), but it's right in the middle of the FEI.  We're open to options in Frankfurt and Lexington, but I know nothing about them.  What are the downtown hotels like in those cities?  Would we be able to walk places for food and such?  Any suggestions?  TIA!

Frankfort and Lexington will be even less available during FEI.  Stick with Louisville if you want to be in Kentucky.  But, be prepared to pay big bucks for anything within about 200 miles of Lexington.

Why not try Indy or Nashville?  Nashville's got a couple of really cool hotels in downtown.  Check these out:

I've not stayed at Union Station, but I have stayed at the Hermitage.  Swanky.  The rooms aren't too badly priced, though.

If neither of those interest you, maybe Chicago?  Or St. Louis.

Yeah the Alltech games are going to be based in Lexington at the Horse Park. I like squirrly's idea of Nashville or Chicago. Or even Gatlinburg. It's totally cheesetastic, but I think it's fun.

Doh!  I totally just assumed that they would be held at Churchill Downs.  Oops.  We'll be moving to Knoxville straight after the mini-moon (selling my house), and we don't want to drive more than an hour for the first night.  We thought about spending the first night in downtown Louisville, then going someplace else (Cumberland Falls was original plan) but I'd like to lay in bed and not have to check out the next day, so then it made more sense to do all 3 nights in one place.  Looks like we'll be sticking to Louisville and praying for a few rooms on Priceline!  We're planning on our actual HM over Christmas to Costa Rica for 2 weeks and want to save as much money as possible.

    Thanks ladies!

Hey Inky. . . What about going to West Baden/French Lick?  That's just a little over an hour from Louisville, and it's AWESOME.  Went there for my b-party and LOVED it.

Oooo....that's a great idea Squirrly!  I'll run it by the FI and see.  It would be farther for us becuase we're getting married on the far east side of Louisville, but it would be great.  My family is originally all from French Lick, so that would be a cool connection.  My only hesitation is that there's not a whole lot to do there and our eating choices would be fairly limited.  Thanks!

We ate at Sinclair's and it was ah.ma.zing.  Perfect.  SUPER DUPER ROMANTIC.  :D  I have no idea what else, food wise, is around, but Huber's is between there and Louisville, so you could go there and do a wine tasting or whatnot, if you wanted.  And they have a restaurant.  So that's something.

As for what to do at French Lick/West Baden. . . the spa.  :D  They have golf, and a casino, and it looks like there are lots of little trails you could walk around the area.  French Lick has an in house bowling alley.  And sometimes they have concerts or other entertainers.

There's also Cave Country Canoes nearby.  We did that for FI's birthday last year, and had a good time.  And, there's Holiday World.  Not sure how far it is, but it's the right direction, anyway.

Thanks Squirrly.  I talked to him last night and after looking at the prices online, they're the same amount as the hotels in downtown Louisville.  So, we're just going to stick with Louisville and go from there.  Thanks for the suggestion though...I hadn't even thought about it!

LOL.  Sorry!  We're going to Costa Rica for our actual HM in December if that helps.  You can live vicariously through us for that!  [:)]
