Re: non church ceremony ?

• We are not having a church wedding either. We are getting married at a park near our apartment, mostly because it is special to us, but also because it is beautiful!

Here is our ceremony order. We are including a few prayers, but nothing inappropriate for the setting and our personal beliefs.

Presentation of the Bride
Opening Prayer/Welcome
Reading One
Reading Two
Introduction to the Vows
Excahnge of Vows
Exchange of Rings
Lord's Prayer
Pronouncement
FInal Blessing/Closing
The Kiss!
Introduction as Husband and Wife

I hope this helps. Additionally, our ceremony will probably clock in at 20 minutes.

It's kind of like a time capsule. We will find a nice bottle of wine, and write love notes that try to capture our love and how we feel on that day to one another. No one reads them though. During the ceremony, we place both in a box and nail it shut. We are picking the significant anniversary of our 10 year for the date that we open it to celebrate, drink the wine & read the letters. Then you can choose to add another and write new notes for the next 10 years. Also, if we ever reach a rough patch where we question whether to continue with our marriage, we are to open it and try to rekindle/remember that love.

I found it and love it. I have a lot of divorce in my family, so it really hits home with me in particular. Not working things out isn't an option....or I hope it never is!

• I loved the idea of the wine box ceremony.....FI did not.......end of story.....but I did like it and really thought it was special...so cool that you are doing it....and it does have more meaning to you with the divorce rate in your family....I still like it....very cool idea and different....I like the little different touches....

Thanks! I was really surprised my FI was ok with it. It really did strike a cord with me given my families past. And of those 3 divorces, they all kind of fell apart around 10 years....which is how I picked our milestone anniversary. I'm really excited because my stepdad actually made us a table for our wedding present and I asked him to make our wine ceremony box. It came in the mail today and is beautiful! It means so much to have him make it!

We weren't big on adding readings and stuff to our ceremony, but when the pastor told us about how when he does communion, he does it just for the couple (shorter that way), but it's also the first thing that they do together after becoming husband and wife. We both really like that! We haven't fully decided if we will do it, but I'm leaning towards yes.
