Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

beach wedding advice

Hi ,
thinking about a beach wedding. I'm a bit concerned about wind and my hair blowing all over the place, as well as the guests not being able to hear.

I am also concerned about weather. Paying top dollar for  a beach location and god forbid it rains.

I'm thinking of moving to an indoor venue, but my fiancee really wants beachy.

Anyone out there been to a beach wedding that can share their thoughts?

Re: beach wedding advice

  • I got married on the beach. Luckily, for me, the weather on the wedding day was beautiful and clear. However, I did have a backup plan - we would have simply moved the ceremony to the reception space, which wouldn't have been ideal, but we would've gotten married and that's what was important!

It wasn't very windy on my wedding day, so I didn't have to worry about that. Unfortunately that is a concern for any outdoor wedding, not just beach weddings. Maybe you could wear your hair in an updo that wouldn't be very affected by the wind.

For our wedding, we had a sound system set up. We had some problems with the sound guy - he couldn't get it to work until the end - but when it did work, our guests could hear everything. However, it was a small wedding with about 30 in attendance.

One thing to consider about a beach wedding is the issue of privacy! Depending on where your ceremony is located and when it takes place - both time of the year and time of the day - there could be a lot of people watching! I got married in June at 6 in the evening on South Padre Island, and there were quite a few people hanging around watching us get married! There was even a guy in a Speedo that walked right behind where our ceremony was taking place. We didn't notice until we watched the wedding video. Anyway, it was fine with us because we knew there would be other people watching, but make sure if you get married on a busy, public beach that you think about who will be watching you!

I do like the idea that previous poster mentioned - look for somewhere beachfront with a pavilion. As a matter of fact, I saw a couple get married at a beachfront hotel on a patio area overlooking the ocean. It was very nice :-). I think that is a good way to have a "beach" wedding that is still somewhat sheltered from the elements! Good luck and congrats! :-)
